<\/center><\/p>\nMy governor has just extended the stay at home order for another month, so kiddo just got another week or two off of school. Thankfully, every teacher in Washington has worked up their curriculum to take place on Google Classroom and\/or a few other classroom management systems like ClassDojo.<\/p>\n
In the spirit of this, I thought I would share some of my favorite mnemonic devices. (Why yes, I *AM* a geek!)<\/p>\n
<\/a>— 1 —<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Order of sharps in the key signature.<\/strong> I learned this when I was 10 years old though my piano teacher doesn’t remember teaching me that the “B” stood for “bugs”.<\/p>\n F<\/strong>at <\/a>— 2 —<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Order of flats in the key signature.<\/strong> BEAD is its own word in this one.<\/p>\n B <\/a>— 3 —<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The Great Lakes.<\/strong> I think this is the first one I remember learning. It’s also the example I shared of a mnemonic device in one of my tutor trainings.<\/p>\n H<\/strong>uron <\/a>— 4 —<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Care for a sprain.<\/strong> This one is fairly well-known.<\/p>\n R<\/strong>est <\/a>— 5 —<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Order of operations in mathematics.<\/strong> A friend of mine is a math teacher, and her department dressed up as this mnemonic device one year! <\/p>\n P<\/strong>arentheses becomes…<\/p>\n P<\/strong>lease E<\/strong>xcuse M<\/strong>y D<\/strong>ear A<\/strong>unt S<\/strong>ally<\/p>\n <\/a>— 6 —<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Colors of the rainbow.<\/strong> Anyone else have a friend named Roy G. Biv?<\/p>\n R<\/strong>ed G<\/strong>reen<\/p>\n B<\/strong>lue <\/a>— 7 —<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Order of planets.<\/strong> Pluto is a planet.
