I’d heard offhand (probably through Wait Wait — Don’t Tell Me!<\/a>) about some guy whose friends had put up a billboard of him<\/a> in order to get him a wife. My first reaction is… how desperate are they?!?!? Second reaction: what kind of weird place are they from? This had to be somewhere in the South or in San Francisco (NorCal people: do not spam me — you can so see this happening in the Bay Area), right?<\/p>\n

Well… it is a weird place: Salt Lake City, Utah, a.k.a. Mormon<\/a> Mecca. (I actually want to go back there and stay a few days because being within 50 miles of SLC was like being in a city in another country and the culture fascinates me as a scholar of religion.) Apparently, he’s 31 (!!!!!) and still single, so his friends and co-workers decided to help him out a bit. There’s a website<\/a> attached to said billboard and people are actually vying to date him. (I thought about filling out the application as a joke but realized that it would be cruel if I was actually chosen.)<\/p>\n
