{"id":3612,"date":"2012-03-18T08:00:21","date_gmt":"2012-03-18T15:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/grace-filled.net\/?p=3612"},"modified":"2012-03-18T01:15:55","modified_gmt":"2012-03-18T08:15:55","slug":"lenten-hymn-sunday-iv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/grace-filled.net\/?p=3612","title":{"rendered":"Lenten Hymn Sunday (IV)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We continue our foray into Lenten hymns (or at least hymns I like that are cool) with &#8220;Jesus Lover of My Soul&#8221; which has another lovely Welsh hymn tune called <em>Aberystwyth<\/em>.  (The Welsh do cool things with hymnody.)  It is in a minor key and flows well as long as the organist\/pianist takes it at a good clip.  (It becomes positively dirge-like otherwise.)<\/p>\n<p>The words (with a third verse I have never heard sung):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,<br \/>\nWhile the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.<br \/>\nHide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;<br \/>\nSafe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.<\/p>\n<p>Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;<br \/>\nLeave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.<br \/>\nAll my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;<br \/>\nCover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.<\/p>\n<p>Wilt Thou not regard my call?
