{"id":505,"date":"2003-09-11T09:39:17","date_gmt":"2003-09-11T14:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=505"},"modified":"2007-04-06T17:10:10","modified_gmt":"2007-04-07T00:10:10","slug":"a-hymn-for-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/grace-filled.net\/?p=505","title":{"rendered":"A Hymn For Today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,<br \/>\nNow scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown;<br \/>\nHow pale Thou art with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn!<br \/>\nHow does that visage languish, which once was bright as morn!<\/p>\n<p>What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered, was all for sinners\u00ef?? gain;<br \/>\nMine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain.<br \/>\nLo, here I fall, my Savior! \u00ef??Tis I deserve Thy place;<br \/>\nLook on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nMen mock and taunt and jeer Thee, Thou noble countenance,<br \/>\nThough mighty worlds shall fear Thee and flee before Thy glance.<br \/>\nHow art thou pale with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn!<br \/>\nHow doth Thy visage languish that once was bright as morn!<\/p>\n<p>Now from Thy cheeks has vanished their color once so fair;<br \/>\nFrom Thy red lips is banished the splendor that was there.<br \/>\nGrim death, with cruel rigor, hath robbed Thee of Thy life;<br \/>\nThus Thou hast lost Thy vigor, Thy strength in this sad strife.<\/p>\n<p>My burden in Thy Passion, Lord, Thou hast borne for me,<br \/>\nFor it was my transgression which brought this woe on Thee.<br \/>\nI cast me down before Thee, wrath were my rightful lot;<br \/>\nHave mercy, I implore Thee; Redeemer, spurn me not!<\/p>\n<p>What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest friend,<br \/>\nFor this Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end?<br \/>\nO make me Thine forever, and should I fainting be,<br \/>\nLord, let me never, never outlive my love to Thee.<\/p>\n<p>My Shepherd, now receive me; my Guardian, own me Thine.<br \/>\nGreat blessings Thou didst give me, O source of gifts divine.<br \/>\nThy lips have often fed me with words of truth and love;<br \/>\nThy Spirit oft hath led me to heavenly joys above.<\/p>\n<p>Here I will stand beside Thee, from Thee I will not part;<br \/>\nO Savior, do not chide me! When breaks Thy loving heart,<br \/>\nWhen soul and body languish in death\u00ef??s cold, cruel grasp,<br \/>\nThen, in Thy deepest anguish, Thee in mine arms I&#8217;ll clasp.<\/p>\n<p>The joy can never be spoken, above all joys beside,<br \/>\nWhen in Thy body broken I thus with safety hide.<br \/>\nO Lord of Life, desiring Thy glory now to see,<br \/>\nBeside Thy cross expiring, I\u00ef??d breathe my soul to Thee.<\/p>\n<p>My Savior, be Thou near me when death is at my door;<br \/>\nThen let Thy presence cheer me, forsake me nevermore!<br \/>\nWhen soul and body languish, oh, leave me not alone,<br \/>\nBut take away mine anguish by virtue of Thine own!<\/p>\n<p>Be Thou my consolation, my shield when I must die;<br \/>\nRemind me of Thy passion when my last hour draws nigh.<br \/>\nMine eyes shall then behold Thee, upon Thy cross shall dwell,<br \/>\nMy heart by faith enfolds Thee.
