Then I saw that it would be 3 negatives for every positive and I don’t want to post something that would get me that much hatemail. It was highly partisan and he made quite a few factual errors that really should not have gotten past his speechwriters. This isn’t me being anti-Bush: a few of my staunchly Republican friends from back home agreed with me on it via IM. (Booyah for laptops with DSL!) He did give glory to God for bringing us through which was a positive but I really can’t say that his speech was anything more than a “re-elect me” plea. Previous years were better. He did talk up the capture of Saddam Hussein (which was done with Clinton’s army since Bush hasn’t increased anything other than Halliburton contracts and cut combat pay). He also criticized Clinton for WTC 1993, which was a pretty low blow because the event was barely a month after Clinton took office and it was CLINTON’S security recommendations that were put into place after 9/11. (These are ones that Bush had been ignoring for 8 months.)

The Democratic rebuttal was excellent but maybe a small tic below last year. (Gary Locke was a good match for rebutting Bush because Locke is a self-made man, Yale grad, excellent governor, and 2nd generation Chinese-American. I sort of wish he was running for president.) It was Nancy Pelosi (one of my homegirls) and Tom Daschle (who is a senator for the state 10 minutes away). They did very well and my Monarchist husband said that theirs seemed more balanced and moderate than Bush’s. The only thing they didn’t touch on was gay marriage — mostly because it would have pissed of Pelosi’s constituents and it’s not an issue for the Democrats as much as it is for Bush. I appreciated that it was two people instead of just one and it was a pretty good variety from the party since Pelosi represents SFO (liberal junction) and Daschle represents South Dakota.

My $0.02 for what they it’s worth.

The State of the Union Drinking Game Number of hard ciders I would have had to down during Bush’s speech (with 10 tics counting as a full bottle): 17 Number of hard ciders I would have had to down during … Continue reading →

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[12

post-578","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-politics
["GET
