One of Jon’s churches is celebrating their 125th anniversary this weekend, so I’m posting this hymn in commemoration. It’s Danish in origin and has a really cool tune. \ud83d\ude42 (The Cyberhymnal<\/a> link is at the bottom.)<\/p>\n

Built on the Rock the church doth stand,
\nEven when steeples are falling;
\nCrumbled have spires in every land,
\nBells still are chiming and calling;
\nCalling the young and old to rest,
\nBut above all the soul distressed,
\nLonging for rest everlasting.<\/p>\n

Surely in temples made with hands,
\nGod, the Most High, is not dwelling;
\nHigh above earth His temple stands,
\nAll earthly temples excelling;
\nYet He whom heavens cannot contain
\nChose to abide on earth with men,
\nBuilt in our bodies His temple.<\/p>\n

We are God\u00e2????s house of living stones,
\nBuilded for His habitation;
\nHe through baptismal grace us owns,
\nHeirs of His wondrous salvation;
\nWere we but two His Name to tell,
\nYet He would deign with us to dwell,
\nWith all His grace and His favor.<\/p>\n

Now we may gather with our King;
\nEven in the lowliest dwelling:
\nPraises to Him we there may bring,
\nHis wondrous mercy foretelling;
\nJesus His grace to us accords,
\nSpirit and life are all His words,
\nHis truth doth hallow the temple.<\/p>\n

Still we our earthly temples rear,
\nThat we may herald His praises;
\nThey are the homes where He draws near
\nAnd little children embraces,
\nBeautiful things in them are said,
\nGod there with us His covenant made,
\nMaking us heirs of His Kingdom.<\/p>\n

Here stands the font before our eyes
\nTelling how God did receive us;
\nThe altar recalls Christ\u00e2????s sacrifice
\nAnd what His table doth give us;
\nHere sounds the Word that doth proclaim
\nChrist yesterday, today, the same,
\nYea, and for aye our Redeemer.<\/p>\n

Grant then, O God, wherever men roam,
\nThat, when the church bells are ringing,
\nMany in saving faith may come
\nWhere Christ His message is bringing:
