About Jen

Jen isn't quite sure when she lost her mind, but it is probably documented here on Meditatio. She blogs because the world needs her snark at all hours of the night... and she probably can't sleep anyway.

Random Thoughts on Various Things

Here are random thoughts on things that are going on:

[+]The Constitutional amendment defining marriage as the Biblical model: Let’s see… hurricane season has started and I highly doubt the levies are fixed; we’re fighting a losing battle in Iraq; and gas companies are inflating prices. In other words… THERE ARE MORE PRESSING THINGS TO THINK ABOUT RATHER THAN THE SEX LIVES OF OTHER PEOPLE!!!!!!

[+]Bill O’Reilly on the slaughters at MalmÃ?dy: Bill, you’re an f-ing moron. You made the mistake, not once but TWICE and you dressed down a 4-star general in the process who actually KNEW something about which he was speaking.. The Americans WERE the victims, NOT the Germans. You CANNOT compare that to the atrocities at Abu Gharib or Hadith. WE were the ones who screwed up in those two cases.

If You’re Going to Lose, Lose Boldly.

So I did the Toole County 5K Dash for Health this morning.Â? I planned to just walk it because my asthma wasn’t going to let me run and besides, I have a sinus infection.Â? So… I walked it and came in… dead last.Â? The ambulance was following me.Â? My time was probably around an hour for finishing (especially since neither my lungs nor legs felt like working toward the end) but dangit I FINISHED!!!!!!!!

Everyone was cheering for me when I got to the finish line (which made me feel more and hey… free BBQ afterwards for participating and I won a shirt in the drawing.

I came home, checked to see if they needed any help at VBS, showered, checked email, and promptly COLLAPSED on the couch for 5 hours and slept.

My goal if I do it next year: finish in less time.Â? I’m not even going to pretend that I can run it, especially with all the freaking hills in Shelby.

Lost in Translation

I’m the French translator for Blogathon 2006 and in translating my first of the pages, I realized how much I suck at going from English to French.Â? I can translate French-English without a problem but in doing reverse translation, I start nitpicking over the exact word I want to use and it makes it take longer than it would going the other way.

This is why I don’t go off on tangents about how one translation of the Bible is inherently better than another — each translation bears the biases of the translator. Â? Granted, I can read Koine Greek and Biblical Hebrew so I can see some of the inside jokes and nuances which get lost in translating the Scriptures into English.Â? I guess this is why we have Bible commentaries?
