About Jen

Jen isn't quite sure when she lost her mind, but it is probably documented here on Meditatio. She blogs because the world needs her snark at all hours of the night... and she probably can't sleep anyway.

An Unusual Visitor

Ke was frosting gingerbread cat cookies with me this morning when an unusual visitor came into the kitchen: FREYA! I’d already showed a very spooky Edda to Ke and I wasn’t expecting the other cats to come in; but I guess Freya was curious. She even came and curled up under the chair. I finally picked her up and had Ke pet her. She was a good little monster and didn’t rip my arms up like her siblings would have done.

Now to just explain to her that tabby patch cats aren’t supposed to eat the porcelain wisemen on the table…

Open House Prep

In a vain attempt to keep myself organized, here’s my to-do list for the open house prep:

-get the boxes out to the garage
-clean the bathroom
-clean the china (I’m using some of my good china for serving pieces)
-unpack everything else that needs to be unpacked or send it to the proper room
-make “do not enter” signs for the off-limits areas
-remove everything from the medicine cabinet (since there WILL be people who check it)
-thaw out food in freezer
-make cider
-arrange stuff for baking with Ka, Ke, and Ca.
-put up tree for Kl to decorate
-find tablecloths for the two tables
-figure out arrangement of living room and possible alternate seating upstairs
-put hampers in proper places
-wash bedspread so bedroom can be used for coats
-figure out what I want D to do
-make CD of cool Christmas music
-string up lights in living room

IT’S OVER AND DONE!!!!!!!!!! Now to just figure out who to pawn the leftover food off onto at church!

Somewhere in there, I also need to eat, shower, sleep, and breathe.

Back Home

I arrived back in Montana today. I am exhausted and I feel like I’ve been in a time warp but it was a good trip. My grandfather is doing better and I have memories of a good visit with him if this is the last visit I get with him before he passes. Thank you SOOOO much to everyone who has kept me and my family in prayer. I have appreciated it!

The only downside of the trip: I left my bag of crochet hooks on the train on the way there!!!! Jon has offered to replace everything as my Christmas present. GOOOOOOD husband!

I haven’t done much since getting home other than do laundry and take a shower. My brats were happy to see me and I have had all 4 keeping me company as I’ve watched “Grey’s Anatomy” and worked on afghan squares. (I don’t have any really pressing projects so I’m working on squares with my scrap yarn.)

Will post more compelling content tomorrow or something…

Personal Prayer Request Answered

I met Melissa on probably my second or third day of college as she lived down the hall from me. She was a year ahead of me but I ended up getting to know her because she invited me to go to church with her and she also was part of Intervarsity. She’s one of the few people I’ve kept in touch with since graduation.

When all the chaos started happening this week, I called her to see if I could stay with her or something because I was having to come up to northwestern Washington (where she’d moved) to deal with my family crisis. She called me back and told me she could pick me up at the train station (she actually volunteered to drive to Sea-Tac!!!!) and I could stay with her if I needed to. All I ended up needing was a ride from the train station and she also got to meet my family (who I think probably hugged her to death when they met her).

A couple days later, she called and asked if we could hang out while I was up here. My grandfather was doing well, so I said yes and we arranged to go out to dinner and talk.

We ended up going to Applebee’s tonight as well as going to the mall and doing some shopping. I honestly can’t remember the last time (if ever) I’ve gone shopping with friends and we had a really good time. We got some good conversation in and just being able to spend the time with her seriously blessed me because I miss her (she is literally the world’s sweetest person) and I’ve missed doing things with godly women my age.

So… my personal prayer request of community was answered… in a really quirky “only God would answer it this way” kind of sense.

Maybe I’m Amazed?

A quick post to let people know what’s up.

I’m in Washington and my grandfather has done a complete 180 — we didn’t think he was going to live on Monday and now we know that he is. They got his meds fixed and the speech therapist taught him some swallowing techniques so that he can now get some nutrition. He gets out of the hospital tomorrow and will be in rehab for probably a month. My mom and her siblings and my g’ma are figuring out the long term care situation right now — probably home healthcare stuff?

For those who have prayed, THANK YOU!!!!! Your prayers have meant a lot to me and evidently, they’ve worked!
