About Jen

Jen isn't quite sure when she lost her mind, but it is probably documented here on Meditatio. She blogs because the world needs her snark at all hours of the night... and she probably can't sleep anyway.

Not A Good Day

I had to wait 3 hours to see my OB/GYN this morning because she had to deliver a few babies. My cyst is gone thankfully and all is good with Jen’s health again.

I came home and found that my evil health insurance company will not cover Jon’s scalp cyst from 2 months ago because it’s a pre-existing condition. Yeah… one that he developed WHILE we were covered by them. I also finished the CARE application to send to the hospital.

Jon went to pick the car up from the mechanic and brought it home only to find out that it wouldn’t start. (There’s an electrical problem with a turn signal or something.) So… it’s being towed half a block to the mechanic and we keep our rental car (which was out-of-pocket) until tomorrow. This weekend, we depend on the kindness of strangers and on Monday (when the car had to be back in anyway), we get the turn signal replaced and hopefully the electrical system fixed. As soon as Jon is back from the mechanic, we’ll go to the post office to run errands.

I’m lucid and calm (right now) but I’m just wanting to have a few months of nothing happening.

Miracle of miracles

Elizabeth Smart found alive

This is pretty miraculous considering that almost no kidnapping yields a live victim at the end. I remember the Polly Klaas kidnapping in 1993 very vividly because she was a year younger than me and she was also from northern California. I remember the trial and the verdict. (The only case of the death penalty in California that I support is this one.) The picture on the Front Page of the paper after the verdict was Richard Allen Davis flipping a double bird at the camera.

Anyway… this is such good news. If it wasn’t Lent, I’d use the A (or H) word. 🙂

What’s Up with Jen and Jon Right Now

Basically, this is the timeline:

-April 10th: Jen does her panel interview for her candidacy committee. If approved, she applies to Luther and Trinity.
-August 1st: All final evals from Jon are due in.
-August 15th: Jon’s Internship ends. He might stay on as a pastoral assistant.
-sometime in August: Jon flies out to SoCal and goes through approval
-September: Jen starts school again, either at Trinity or Luther. Jon goes through “the draft”.
-October: Jon (hopefully) gets a call. With a call, he is ordained and either goes to small town in Minnesota (that is within 2 hours of the Cities) to join Jen or Jen and Jon move to new small town in Ohio that is near Trinity.

The thought is this: I’m about 75% leaning toward Luther and 25% leaning toward going back to Trinity. If I get into the M.Div program at Luther, I would start in the Fall and live on campus until Jon could move up. I would be away from Jon and the boys for at least a month and frankly, I’m not looking forward to being away from my menfolk (the cats AND Jon). We’d probably use our free round-trip on Northwest to let me visit or Jon could use it to come and check out congregations. (I would miss my Cat Cat and Pufferpie though…)

If I get into the M.Div program at Trinity, I would have to commute to Columbus daily (i.e Jon would have to take me) but we could probably work around that. Depending on where he gets called, I’d have to move onto campus at some point or I might be able to just commute if we could buy a second car. (*thinking wistful thoughts about financial aid*)

To be continued…

Job Interview

We left for Highwater at 8. We had to stop in Granville and ask directions to 661-N but we managed to get there in time. My interview was 20 minutes long and I think it went pretty well. They were impressed by my computer experience and the only downside was being asked point-blank how long I was going to be in Newark (i.e. are you going to be on the job for a month and quit). My answer was that I knew I’d be around until September and after that, it was up to the One True Church [sic]. (I’ll explain this tomorrow or maybe in the next entry, depending on how much I feel like writing.)

If I get the job, I would be the administrative assistant and I’d basically be creating the position from the ground up. (I commented that “I’d always wanted to be part of a start-up”.) They showed me the office I’d be in (which is still being built) and there’s a new computer and printer. The position is really everything I like to do and I’m hoping I didn’t come off as too flippant in my interview. I’ll probably hear in a week or so and if I don’t get it, I’ll have to trust that God wants something else for me. I really prayed hard going into this and I feel fairly at peace with it (well… at least when my brain isn’t picking over every little detail).

So… it’s in your hands Lord. I just do hope (and pray) I get the job.

Update

I haven’t blogged in a few days because I haven’t had any good news or anything really of merit to say. The people who had our car for a week (!!!!) called this morning and told us that they couldn’t fix it, but recommended people who could. We are now renting a car to get errands done and to get me to my job interview tonight. I got the W2’s photocopied for the care application and now all I need to do is get all the forms together to mail. I paid most of the bills and will take care of the rest when Jon gets paid.

My job interview tonight is for a church secretary position at a local UCC congregation. I’ve been to the church once for a Gospel concert in November and they asked me to come meet with their pastoral committee tonight. I’m nervous because it would be a great job. It’s only 15 hours per week (3 per day) but that still isn’t too bad and it gives me something to do. I’ve decided not to tell them that I’ll probably be gone in September because I don’t know that for a fact and I also don’t want to jinx the job.

I’ve uploaded entries up until Valentine’s Day 2001. I’ll upload another 10 pages of MT entries tonight.
