A Hymn for Good Friday…

We sang this tonight at the Good Friday service. It is one of my favorite Holy Week hymns.

Ah, holy Jesus, how hast Thou offended,
That man to judge Thee hath in hate pretended?
By foes derided, by Thine own rejected,
O most afflicted.

Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon Thee?
Alas, my treason, Jesus, hath undone Thee.
â????Twas I, Lord, Jesus, I it was denied Thee!
I crucified Thee.

Lo, the Good Shepherd for the sheep is offered;
The slave hath sinned, and the Son hath suffered;
For manâ????s atonement, while he nothing heedeth,
God intercedeth.

For me, kind Jesus, was Thy incarnation,
Thy mortal sorrow, and Thy lifeâ????s oblation;
Thy death of anguish and Thy bitter passion,
For my salvation.

Therefore, kind Jesus, since I cannot pay Thee,
I do adore Thee, and will ever pray Thee,
Think on Thy pity and Thy love unswerving,
Not my deserving.

Why Can’t My Church’s Publishing House Be This Cool?!?!?!?!?

I know I’m going to end up enduring the flames of Hades (or the ice depending on how much of a sin reading Dooce is) but…

I heart Heather Armstrong and I so heart the review she does of this book.

*heavy sigh* Lutherans just don’t do the apocalypse thing that well.Â? Heaven for us will be hotdish and jello and singing hymns in “the mother tongue”. (Umm… is that German?Â? Norwegian?Â? Swedish?Â? Danish?Â? Swahili?)Â? We’re too nice to conceive of all the crap in the Left Behind books.Â? Well… I shouldn’t say that because there is a semi-fundie strain in some ELCA churches that is into that stuff.Â? (Isn’t “Focus on the Family” a little *not* in line with some orthodox Lutheran tenets?)

Heavy Sigh

I was having a wonderful dream where I was getting to experience one of those exclusive things celebrities come up with (in this case, fudge that was cat-friendly and something else that had special scents but was all-natural or something) and Andrea Bocelli was singing.Â? I reached out and held his hand and was enjoying it when all of a sudden…

BREEEEEEEEEEEEEHCH!Â? BREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHCH!

I woke up and Finian was spitting up his breakfast.Â? I had to leave Andrea and the cat-friendly fudge and clean up the cat vomit before Freya decided to eat it!

CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Running in Circles

I just realized that today is the first day I’ve really spent time online since Sunday. Egads! My problem: I don’t have access to a computer with internet at work (OK… I could go to the town library on my lunch break if I was desperate) and even then, I’m constantly on the move doing work.

My job is still wonderful — just crazy busy and having Lenten stuff on top of it doesn’t really help. I skipped church on Monday because it would have given me precisely 2 minutes to eat dinner by the time I got home. On Wednesday, I went straight from work to church (well… I stopped at home to get Jon) so I was gone from 9 to 8:30. Yesterday, I was at work from 8:30 to 6 because I had to meet with the IT guy about web stuff. (Granted, said meeting didn’t really take that long and I had a 20 minute break to do errands before my shift started.) I’m doing MUCH more than I was doing the day I started and of course, there’s yet MORE to learn but I’m pretty content in what I’m doing.

Thursday was our anniversary and we went down to Great Falls to celebrate. I got some $tarbuck$ stuff and we went and hung out with my aunt and uncle for a couple hours. We had dinner at the Golden Corral which was good enough to last me another couple years. (It’s a bit of a variety of food but you’re also exposed to the general public, which includes parents who really should not have bred and the misbehaving creatures they spawned.) After that, we went to the EVIL store to get groceries, catfood, and kitty litter before heading back home so I could go to sleep.

There was a funeral today in one of my favorite church families and I went for the service and for lunch before asking Jon to take me home because I was feeling tired, PMS-y, and like my stomach was on fire. (Note to self: Aleve works on a FULL stomach, not a sip of coke and a banana.) The kids sang and that was cute. I then crashed on the futon for 3 hours and SLEPT.

I’ll get the “blog + work” thing down one of these days…
