Identity

The local LCMS pastor’s wife is thinking about homeschooling 5 of her kids next year and I offered to see if I could find her some resources in the community to help her out. I gathered them and I went over there a little while ago to get out of the house for a few minutes.

I rang the doorbell and some of the kids answered. I asked if their mom was home and they ran to go get her. As they ran through the house, I heard them yelling “Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! It’s the pastor’s wife! It’s the pastor’s wife!”

That just so made my day because it was so cute!!!

Kind of Quiet Days

On Monday, I went to the knitting/crocheting group at church. It was awesomely fun and I’m feeling kind of bad about leaving because I’ll miss these ladies. I spent the rest of the day doing schtuff. I actually walked about 6 miles yesterday — the weather was just so nice. On the second walk, Jon insisted on introducing himself to the “new” LCMS pastor in town. We ended up being invited in and getting to know him, his wife, and their 8(!) kids. Apparently, I have good 2 year-old karma because their 2 year-old just chilled in my arms after throwing a massive tantrum in her father’s lap. It was great talking to his wife — it was interesting to have someone who speaks “my language” as a pastor’s wife.

Today, I got some medical stuff worked out, sorted laundry, did some taebo (for the first time in two months — it felt sooooo good), went for a walk, and helped to test the registration stuff for the Blogathon.

Compared to the last couple weeks, life has been incredibly quiet. It’s almost shocking not to have 1500 things to do.

Cool T-Shirt

Roy, one of my Jon’s more “colorful” parishioners (he’s a child psychiatrist who is a newly-minted Lutheran though stubbornly hanging onto his Methodist roots — I adore him because he’s so interesting and unconventional), had a truly wonderful shirt on when we saw him at lunch today. It read “Heretic in Good Company” and had the names of other famous heretics on it.

Let me just say that I TOTALLY WANT THAT SHIRT!!!!!!!!

Am I Too Old For This?

Jon and I were walking through the mall today and we saw a sign for the Harry Potter Breakfast being held from 8-10 on Saturday at B. Dalton. I made the comment to Jon that we would be going if I didn’t already have the book ordered. Jon’s response: “Jen, aren’t you a little too old for this?”

I figure that if people can stand in line at 3 a.m. in L.A. to get into the new Star Wars movie, I can toss on a button-down shirt, black skirt, tie, tights, shoes, and Jon’s preaching robes and be Hermione!

Some Randomness

[+] Less than two days until HP6 comes out!!!!!!!! *dances around the room holding a fluffy cat*

[+] I got my new glasses ordered today. I tried on about 10 pairs before I found something I really liked. Insurance ate half the cost of them and with the funeral stipend ($100), I’m out only $37.

[+] I’m participating in the Blogathon on August 6th. (My site for it is here.) I can’t wait to do it and I really hope I have enough topics about which I can post. (If you have any ideas, the email address is the graphic in the entry below.)

[+] It’s bloody hot here. It’s been around 90 for the last few days and it gets brutal upstairs where I usually am. I’m at the point of moving my laptop down to the “secretary’s office” (or it would be if we actually *had* a church secretary) and living out of there until the snow flies. The heat is making me really crabby and really nauseous.

[+] I’m 92% done with the wedding blanket I’m working on. It’s 2 ply with an N hook which means it’s HEAVY and a pain to be doing right now. (It was 80% done in May, but then I got sick…) I don’t know why it’s such a pain to finish — because it’s hot and I don’t want to do anything or because the blanket is OSU colors and the Michigan fan in me is rebelling. I’ve got some DVD’s from the library, so I guess the rest of today is going to be devoted to finishing it.
