Ponderings…

  • Why does Kentucky Fried Chicken use part of “Sweet Home Alabama” as their jingle these days?
  • How is it that I, a city-bred girl, adore living out in the middle of the Montana prairie?
  • Does Neosporin really stop wound infections in cats?Â? (Edda has had her ear slimed daily with Neosporin because she’s got some yucky spots.)
  • What exactly is God calling me to do with my B.A. in Religious Studies and one year of seminary?

The Dreary Life I Lead

We ended up not going to Great Falls yesterday, so I got to sleep in and chill and crochet.Â? I’m currently making 7-inch squares with my scrap yarn for afghans for Afghans since I don’t have any major crocheting projects or presents coming up.Â? (Well… I ordered yarn for a baby blanket but it hasn’t arrived yet.) Making the squares has been nice — it’s one of those things I can just sit and do sort of mindlessly and I end up feeling like I’ve made progress as I get 2-4 a day done.Â? Today, I’ve had a little monster curled up next to me pretending to be a sweet cat.Â? She took a nap with me this afternoon (I’ve been exposed to influenza, so I’m kind of letting my body dictate what it wants to do until I can get tested on Friday), she snuggled with Jon, and she sat and was my stressball when I was crocheting earlier.Â? Yesterday, she was burrowing under the comforter on the couch and making little caves.Â? Silly gremlin!
I watched the marathon of The Biggest Loser that BRAVO had on yesterday and got caught up on the episodes that I missed because of travelling or whatever.Â? I have to say… I am soooo impressed with Pete, the guy who won the $100,000 from the Biggest Loser Club (or whatever the thing is called).Â? On the episode where he had to pick the teams, he chose based on who would help each person the most when he could have easily stacked it so that he’d win.Â? The way he explained it was also wonderful as was the scene with him and his wife.Â? He’s one of the characters I actually liked on the show — for the most part, the really nasty people got voted off early, unlike last season where Lisa lasted WAAAAAAAY too long on there!

Such is my life.Â? Other than crocheting and watching TV, I went to breakfast with Jon and the other pastors today and then went to the crafting group that meets on Tuesday with various community people.Â? (It’s kind of become a tradition on Tuesdays for me.)Â? There were quite a few people there this morning and I got a couple squares done while there and found out what a Montana Mud is.Â? (It’s Coke, Irish Cream syrup, and milk.Â? It would actually be pretty decent made with diet Coke or Pepsi since it’s a little too sweet with the real thing.)

Humor and Blood

Am talking with my mother-in-law on the phone:

Jen: A little white paw kept coming out and scratching me this morning, drawing blood.
M-I-L: Ah yes… the weapons of mouse destruction.

At least these WMD’s can be found!

(Said cat with WMD’s got her little claws trimmed today as did her sister and one of her brothers. The other brother will go for my jungular vein if I trim his claws so his only get trimmed when Jon and I are not exhausted. siblings. I waited until my bengal was in a sleepy mood before gently lifting his paws and giving him a feline pedicure.)

An Unusual Visitor

Ke was frosting gingerbread cat cookies with me this morning when an unusual visitor came into the kitchen: FREYA! I’d already showed a very spooky Edda to Ke and I wasn’t expecting the other cats to come in; but I guess Freya was curious. She even came and curled up under the chair. I finally picked her up and had Ke pet her. She was a good little monster and didn’t rip my arms up like her siblings would have done.

Now to just explain to her that tabby patch cats aren’t supposed to eat the porcelain wisemen on the table…

On The Road Again…

I went to Shelby this morning for a haircut and to drop off my paperwork with Shelby Public Schools. Well… turns out my hair appointment was earlier than I expected, so I just dropped stuff off at the school district office and went back home.

I called Chester to find out about fingerprinting and they told me to just go to the sheriff’s office and they could do it for me. Well… I drive 20+ miles there to find that the sheriff can’t accomodate me because there’s only one deputy who can do it and he’s out. So… I called Shelby to ask if they could do it in an hour (which is about how long it was going to take to get from Chester to Shelby) and they said yes. So… I truck 45 miles back to Shelby and a nice deputy fingerprints me. All in all, I think I drove 75 miles for 5 minutes of fingerprinting. I’ll have a parishioner take it over to the schools for me.

Tonight, Jon had a council meeting so I did some baking: gingerbread cats. I have kitty cookie cutters and I got this recipe oof of AllRecipes.Com. I only made half a batch and got 7 cats out of it — I think 2 batches should yield enough for Ke to decorate.

I also realized that I needed a life when I started drawing out plans for how I’d build a gingerbread house and decorate it — making everything from scratch. I never wanted to be Martha Stewart and I’m afraid that I’m turning into her!!!!!!!!!!! *runs screaming*
