Freya

Freya was bitten by something on her nose and I discovered last weekend that she had a good bump developing. We took her to her vet who put her on antibiotics and told us to put hot cotton on it a few times a day.

Well… yesterday evening, she got really quiet and I made the decision to take her to the vet around 11:45 pm. The vet (not the one we like) gave her a shot to lower her fever and told us to bring her back this morning for bloodwork. Her fever was higher this morning and they’re a bit puzzled by this. (Gee… could it maybe be because IT’S A HEAD WOUND?!?!?!?!? You’d think I hadn’t had this experience with one of my parents’ cats while growing up or something.) She almost took the tech’s arm off when they tried (emphasis on “tried”) to take blood for a CBC and various tests. She’s there now under observation and God willing, they’ll be able to do something to treat her.

*crosses fingers* Toss some prayer in her direction, will ya?

My Little Lilac Fairy

The car we were borrowing has a bad alternator, so some people from church lent us another car for the three days before we leave for California. They brought it over with some lilacs that were growing in their yard. I put them on the counter and three of my beasts were on their hind paws wanting to smell them. I lifted them up individually to let them smell and then left to use the bathroom. When I cam back into the kitchen, all three cats were on the counter and Cullen (my big bengal sissy) was on his hind paws contemplating a jump onto the counter. (He’s the only one who stays off the counters.) Freya has had problems staying off the counter, so I decided to use her indescretion for my own uses. 🙂

So here is my little lilac fairy:

Homer and Jethro

My parents “took delivery” on the two kittens around Easter and they finally (!!!!!!) sent me back some pictures.

Homer and Jethro napping on the afghan I made Mom last year
The young princes napping on the afghan I made Mom for Mother’s Day. Homer is the gray cat and Jethro is the tiger.

The princes stalking a Lunardi's bag.

My Charity Afghan Is Complete

I finished edging the afghan with the help of my felixes (orange ones included) and washed it several times to try and get rid of some of the fur. I then aired it out and took this picture.

My afghan on the clothesline

On Monday, I’ll mail it to San Francisco where Afghans for Afghans will sort and mail it to Central Asia. I’m having some separation anxiety as I’ve worked so hard on it and now it’s headed to a place I can only dream about. I’m working on a patchwork afghan for myself in the same colors as the one I’m sending because I love them and I have lots of black yarn left over.

Allergies

I went to see an allergy/asthma specialist because my asthma has been bad lately, mostly due to the incompetence of one of the doctors at my local clinic who basically threw pills and inhalers at me when I came in complaining of congestion and tight-chestedness. The consensus from the good doctor I saw was that I really should see a specialist who deals in allergies and asthma and that I was probably allergic to my cats. I was skeptical because I’ve had cats since I was born and I would have manifested an allergy by now.

Well… I saw the allergist and they did a skin test on my back. I’m allergic to multiple types of grasses, dust mites, oat pollen, and… mildly allergic to cats. She was not happy to hear about my feline herd and explained that I would have to ban them from the bedroom. We also talked about my asthma and came up with a game plan for how to deal with it. She’s keeping me on my meds as I’ve not really had all that much stability and it would be good if we could have me on something long enough to make a difference. (I’m also getting sick of having pills and inhalers thrown at me every time something new comes out on the market.)

I explained to my cats (who were all sitting on the bed when I got home) that I was allergic to them. They stared at me as if to say “and this is our problem???” *sigh* I can’t really ban them from the bedroom so I think I’ll have to clean like a banshee and get some old sheets to use as cat spreads.
