Happenings Lately

[-] Got my taxes done early using TurboTax.Â? For the first time since Jon was ordained, the government is giving us money back which is going toward our April estimate.
[-] The hyperextended knee is pretty well healed up.Â? Now if I could figure out what I did to the other knee…
[-] Engaged in some retail therapy in Great Falls yesterday.Â? Hit up Bath & Body Works, Lady Foot Locker (replaced my 3 year old running shoes with ones that actually *have* arch support), Victoria’s Secret, Wally World, and 2-J’s (like Trader Joe’s).Â? Also had dinner with my aunt and uncle.
[-] Holy Week has started.Â? Jon preached a perfectly depressing sermon today on how Jesus CHOSE to suffer and didn’t take the easy way out and we sang “Ah Holy Jesus”.Â? Yes… I like the somberness and the really OLD hymns we get on Good Friday and during the rest of Holy Week — I know I’m weird.
[-] I’ll be in Chico Hot Springs from the 25th to 28th for the synod pastor’s conference (I get to go chill this year) and I have the Clergy Spouse Retreat from April 4th to 6th so I’ll be getting around the state quite a bit.

Blizzards and Christian Radio

We had a mini blizzard around here, especially up on the border on Wednesday.Â? Being the complete idiot I am, I persevered and made it to work even though most of the people who live in the small town south of the border chose not to come in.Â? (It was pretty well complete white-out for the last 5 miles.Â? Even the TOW TRUCKS were pulling over.)Â? I made it through my 8 hour shift… only to get magnificently STUCK in the parking lot while trying to get out.Â? (We’re talking an hour to get me unstuck as well as getting another person stuck in a drift trying to avoid me.)Â? During all of this, we discovered that my front tires were completely bald so I was ordered to GET NEW TIRES THE NEXT MORNING.

Well… I had a lovely cuddle with Stupid (the kitty who lives at the co-op down the hill from us) while I waited for one of the people to figure out how to get the tires there and finally decided to take Jon’s car so that I wouldn’t have to make up too much time.Â? So… I actually had a working radio and got to listen to some awesome music.Â? One of the songs that was most poignant was “Song of Solomon” by Sara Groves which unfortunately isn’t on Napster (!!!!) so the album containing it is now on my wishlist.Â? I got probably half an hour of music before it went into Christian talk programming (which isn’t my thing).

So… there was some benefit to my misadventures on Wednesday.

Faith Walking

I finished lunch early and was feeling restless so I decided to go for a walk around the “town” where my company is located. We had flurries up there yesterday morning so the area was kind of dusted with snow (which covered ice) and I had to be kind of careful but it was wonderful and it cleared my head so I could deal with whatever I had to do in the afternoon.

Faithwise, I’ve been feeling a yearning in me for something and I can’t really figure out what it is.Â? Well… actually I can but I’m not sure why I’m feeling it.Â? Symptoms of said yearning are being remedied with a healthy dose of the Psalms.

Also making some progress in the “Drama Llama Chronicles” department.

Politics and Other Amusements

Kristen and Pisco have both weighed in on where they stand with regard to the election in November so…

My candidate of choice is Barack Obama, mostly because he’s pretty well the only one I can stand. I don’t like any of the Republicans (not that much of a surprise) and I really can’t stand most of the Democrats. My second choice would be Bill Richardson because he’s got the breadth of experience but I doubt he’ll make it to the final nomination.

Ron Paul was a shot for me as a crunchy con of sorts but I just don’t like him enough to want to vote for him.

In other news, I’m working hard and not playing much these days since getting back from Lethbridge. I slept and just laid low all day yesterday and I took a short walk today to mail some stuff. (I’d probably have walked more except that it’s cold and windy and my lungs were not amused.) I’m going to try and do some walking this week on my lunch hour if the weather isn’t bad up where I work as I miss it and I prefer walking in town and city settings.

I did actually make it to Church #1 this morning… 5-10 minutes late because I forgot that worship was going to be at 9:15 instead of 9:30 so that Jon could have an extra 15 minutes to get up to Church #3. Oh well. There was smoked turkey and salsa at coffee afterwards so I made out quite well. The large amount of protein I consumed is probably why I’m sleepy — well other than a warm study and a lovely office gremlin (who is tempting me by sleeping on the chair next to me).
