The 411 on Life Lately

[+] I had a septoplasty on July 7th in Kalispell. I was really blessed to have people to stay with the night before and the night after the surgery as well as people to sit with Jon while I was in surgery and to pray with me before I went in. I had an AWESOME anesthesiologist with a sense of humor and actually very little pain for the first three days after the surgery.

[+] We got stuck in Browning with a coolant issue on the way home from Kalispell and happened across some awesome guys who fixed things enough for us to get home… for $20. (This is about 1/10 of what it would have cost to take it to our mechanic.) When we did take it in, there were simple fixes: a new coolant reservoir and a new jumbo fuse which also made my horn, my radio, and a few other cool things work for the first time since I bought the car. Score!

[+] I spent the week of surgery off of work (on my boss’ advice) and it was a time of sporadic sleep (it’s hard to sleep after a septoplasty because you have so much crud in your nose) as well as getting stuff up for Day of Blogs (the alternative blogathon that I’m helping to organize and blogging in next Saturday).

[+] I had my sutures and splints removed in Kalispell last Tuesday which was excruciatingly painful because of all the nerve endings in the nose as well as stuff getting hung up inside my nasal cavity. I’ll refrain from describing the other scab/blood/snot removed from my nasal cavity except to say that I’m amazed at how much can fit in there. Having to have the impressions redone for my night guard was easy in comparison even though not being able to breathe through my nose made me vomit.

My Father-In-Law the Double Doc

My father-in-law graduated from Fuller Seminary with his Ph.D today.Â? I am very proud of him.

But…

I am much prouder that last night at his hooding ceremony in the CATS program, he wore the cat ears that I sent him as a graduation present.Â? He wore them on stage, during his speech, and for pictures afterwards.Â? Bishop Egertson, his guest, also wore them in pictures and around.

Let’s just say that I am *quite* amused.

Some Sage Advice

I’m having issues with my laptop so I called my tech support person (a.k.a. my mommy) who gave me the following words of encouragement:

“There is no computer problem that cannot be solved with 300 feet of salt water.”

How true.

Meanwhile, I’m going to go stab my sinuses out with a screwdriver.Â? Carry on.

Why I’m Keeping Jon

Jon had been threatening to drive up and bring me flowers on Valentine’s Day but didn’t know if it would be allowed and he ended up replacing the tires on my car instead.

So… yesterday I was up at my desk and someone announces over the PA system that I have someone downstairs waiting for me.Â? My thought was: “Ohmigosh… he didn’t…”Â? Well… he did.Â? Jon was downstairs at the front desk with a pot of hyacinths for me.Â? (I also just HAD to show him and the flowers off to various people.)

It was awesome that he drove up to see me (especially since the drive is 60 miles each way) but the hyacinths were just perfect on two levels.Â? One: it’s a joke related to “Keeping Up Appearances” that I’d get a “hyacinth bouqueeeeeeet”.Â? Two (which he didn’t know): one of the things that makes me miss California is the smell of the hyacinths — my mom grows them and I remember late February and early March when they’d be in bloom in her garden and just the most fragrantly beautiful air in the early morning during high school and when I was home from college for orthodontist appointments.

So… I’m keeping him for awhile longer.Â? 🙂

Christmas Redux

OK… in usual form:

The Good
-getting to see my parents and extended family again
-my grandma’s cat being a love instead of a calico curmudgeon
-getting to meet my dad’s cousin Eloise
-getting to see my cousins Kristin and Sarah again
-getting to see other family again
-Midnight Mass at my grandparents’ church with my mom
-being in Washington
-awesome presents
-my grandma being in good health

The Bad
-my flights getting in at crappy hours
-flying through Denver.Â? Enough said.
-getting home at 2 am on the 26th and having to be at work 8 hours later

We’re headed up to Lethbridge for a couple days of rest and relaxation.Â? Monday is a holiday for my company so I don’t have to be there.Â? (Happy Jen.)

I Am Still Alive… Really I Am

OK… another week with no updates.Â? Blame lack of time due to work.Â? 🙂

My parents are in town until tomorrow.Â? This has meant good food, fun times, and being spoiled.Â? I took today off and got some crocheting done.Â? The last crocheting I did fetched $65 at the church auction/dinner on Sunday.Â? Go me!

And for Grey’s fans, what happened after the cut into the scene with Lexi crying last Thursday?Â? My idiot DVR cut off at that point.Â? I also want to slap Meredith for saying those things to her.
