Lazy Day in SoCal

After beating myself to a pulp last night (and pulling various joints out of place in my hands and legs) while walking to and from the store, I slept until noon today, got In n’ Out (which is just soooooo good for me), and went to my m-i-l’s favorite thrift shop.Â? Lots of lovely clothes — if only I was built normally and not like my dad.Â? They had some truly hideous things which my m-i-l had me try on for fun.Â? (The most interesting: the ankle-length leather skirt — I think the leather looked better on the cow.)

Now that I’ve worked the tension out of my in-laws’ whalebone tabby, I’m going to go swim.Â? Oh yes… my in-laws’ tabby patch cat decided to attack my hair as I was sitting up from petting her.Â? Tabby patches are all the same!

(Speaking of such things, I called my cat sitter in Montana for a “neurotic mommy update” and my monsters are doing fine.)

In SoCal Now

We got to SoCal yesterday evening with very few problems.Â? I hung out with my VERY wonderful mother-in-law and sister-in-law while Jon was at the bachelor party.Â? Joanna (the s-i-l) scored major points with me by picking up some 7-Up to calm some of the nausea from the Ortho Evra patch.Â? (Not as bad as the pills but not fun either.)Â? When we got there, my m-i-l was next door at a neighbor’s pool.Â? They jokingly told me to come on in so… I kicked off my running shoes and jumped in fully clothed.Â? It was positively lovely.Â? 🙂

On Monday, the grandfather of Jon’s friend’s fiancÃ?e was killed in a car accident on his way down for the wedding.Â? The wedding is still going on but ohmigosh… it’s also not going to be quite as happy because of what happened.Â? So… please pray for Dawn and her family since this is just a nightmare for them.

In California

I’m in my homeland with my parents for a couple days before I head to the depths of Hell southern California.Â? Currently, my parents’ network hates my laptop, so I’m hijacking the network computer to post.Â? 🙂

The drive was LONG.Â? Two days of 12+ hours on the road including bathroom breaks and such.Â? Reno was a nightmare — my first CITY driving in for-freaking-ever and the sun was in my eyes so I was almost completely blind.Â? I mostly read and let Jon drive though I did do about 3 hours of driving on Sunday and about 5 yesterday.Â? (Astigmatism is a pain when you have to drive at night.)Â? I also think Nevada is the only state that makes North Dakota look remotely interesting — I saw hints of green in Nevada.Â? No such luck in ND last year!!!!!!!!!!!

I have three cats at my disposal at the moment,., all of whom are out killing things.Â? I did have a tabby this morning at 5 am… after I shanghai’ed him from the hall, put him on the bed, and told him to sit down/shut up/purr.Â? He did and his motor skills are spectacular.Â? His brother is a big gray tummy who also went nose-to-nose with me last night.Â? HIS MAJESTY is chill with me and gave me a tour of his yard before settling down and letting me pet him.Â? (He has an owie on his head — apparently, he had an abcess and had to have it drained, so part of the top of his head is shaved and my parents have to pill him twice a day.Â? He purred for me and it sounded like a jet engine taking off.

I’ll probably do the Santa Cruz thing tomorrow and this afternoon, I’m shaving my head.Â? 🙂

A Bunch of CraicHeads

My parents were in town from Monday afternoon until this afternoon and it was lovely.Â? They tamed the weeds in the yard and fed us lunch every day in town.Â? :)Â? My cats were more tolerant of them than usual, especially Edda who ended up being quite conversational with Mom last night as Mom was doing computer stuff.

Dad and Jon got into a discussion on Irish politics while I was putting the 10 lbs of zucchini through the food processor.Â? I remember thinking Duuuude… this violates the “thou shalt not mention politics or religion” rule that is in place at family holidays! but I let them have their fun.

They’re headed west through Glacier and onto Washington before heading back to the Golden State.Â? Jon and I will see them in a couple weeks when we head to Cali for a wedding.

So what’s with the title?Â? Craic is Irish for “good conversation”.Â? And believe me, we had some *GREAT* conversations — conversations that would render someone “ded”.

Unto Us A Child Is Born

OK… not to me specifically but to my cousins Joe and Mary.

William Jasper Cooley was born tonight around 10 p.m. CST (I think — not sure on the exact time).Â? 7lbs and 7oz.

I’m pretty happy.Â? 🙂

Last Night

Gas to and from Great Falls: $30.00
Box of Gardenburgers: $3.99
Sidewalk Chalk: $0.50 per pail

Having dinner with two awesome teenage cousins and decorating an uncle’s driveway including crime scene tracings while getting work done on a baby blanket: absolutely pricelessÂ?

There are many things money can’t buy.Â? Thank God for awesome family members.
