7 Quick Takes: Snarksgiving Edition

7 Quick Takes

It’s 1:30 a.m. on Black Friday and I’m up with stomach upset. (I hate Thanksgiving food for a reason.) Since I’m feeling grumpy about my icky tummy, here are the things that I am snarkily thankful for this year.

— 1 —

$tarbux cups. Because apparently, $tarbux is engaging in a massive conspiracy to erode family values by putting two hands holding each other on their Christmas cup… and those two hands might belong to a lesbian couple! I’m making sure to patronize them as *MUCH* as possible because I believe in doing my part to piss off the Religious Right at the expense of my stomach lining. 😀 (I can’t actually drink hot coffee, even diluted with milk, so my mom has been getting LOTS of coffee bought for her since the controversy started.)

— 2 —

45’s blunders. Having a complete moron as president has done *WONDERS* to bring the Democrats together and even bring some Republicans over to our side because they don’t want to be associated with our imbecilic president.

— 3 —

Living in a navy blue part of a blue state. My state has bit its thumb at 45 and his minions, and thankfully has legislation in place that would likely protect Daniel and me from any havoc 45 tries to wreak upon our lives.

— 4 —

Actual weather. Rain and strong winds are *FAR* superior to the boring sunshine and heat in southern California! (I will take the rain any day over 100+ F heat.) When I lived down there between 2010-2011, reading the L.L. Bean catalog used to depress me because I missed real autumns.

— 5 —

My sub-par Target. Having such a dismal Target in the area has made me more interested in patronizing Fred Meyer, a more local option.

— 6 —

The Women’s March. I never knew how awesome it was to wear a hot pink hat with cat ears while pissing off fat white men in MAGA hats until now! Not to mention, 45’s inauguration was a tiny crowd compared to the *MILLIONS* of people who marched on *SEVEN* continents.

— 7 —

My lack of sleep. It necessitates extra creativity on my part.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook: November 20, 2017

For Today…

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… dark. It was pretty nice today after yesterday’s windstorm and rain. I think it was probably in the 40’s today?

I am thinking… about my homework schedule this week.

I am thankful… the worst of the rain and wind held off until after the burial for Chad’s grandmother yesterday. I was getting blown around like a rag doll driving home but it isn’t as bad as it was later in the afternoon and evening.

One of my favorite things… the golden light from the sunset today.

I am wearing… burgundy long-sleeved shirt and black jeans.

I am creating… entries in my Christmas card database.

I am reading… about this week’s lesson in my Sage50 textbook.

I am hoping… my Sage instructor gives me back some points lost on my last quiz due to a computer mix-up.

I am learning… about best practices for online meetings.

In my kitchen… Dad made steak last night and the three of us (my parents and me) had a small family dinner due to the weather and Thanksgiving happening on Thursday.

In the school room… Daniel is using more and more language.

Post Script… I’m touched by the witness of Debra Tate who said a prayer for the soul of Charles Manson, her sister’s murderer after his death.

A moment from my day… The hymn sung at the burial yesterday.

For Today… November 15, 2017

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… dark with rain pounding on the windows because of the wind. It’s positively lovely.

I am thinking… about the school shooting in northern California and the need to pass gun control laws with teeth.

I am thankful… to be ahead on classwork for a few days so I can chill after my tooth extraction today and not have to think about anything.

One of my favorite things… clean laundry, especially freshly-washed sheets.

I am wearing… jammies.

I am creating… nothing at the moment.

I am listening to… the wind and rain outside.

I am hoping… I did well on my Business English challenge test. (I think I did.)

I am learning… inventory stuff in Sage.

In my kitchen… I made meatloaf on Sunday. It will be smoothies for a few days though because of my jaw.

In the school room… Daniel continues to do well with school.

7 Quick Takes: Republican Losses Edition

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

Political take #1. Yeah, the Republicans lost gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey, lost seats in the Republican-gerrymandered Virginia statehouse, and faced losses elsewhere. This happens. I’m interested in them (and quite chuffed at the results, especially the loss of a critic of the Women’s March) but I am truthfully more interested in what happens next year as we have the entire House and 1/3 of the Senate up for re-election.

— 2 —

Political take #2. One of the big victories from Tuesday was Danica Roem who was elected to the Virginia statehouse. She is transgendered and beat Bob Marshall, the author of the transgendered bathroom bill and self-titled “chief homophobe”. Marshall’s sister pwned him royally for the way he ran his campaign.

Danica spoke of him very charitably after her win and I think we need to follow her example:

Be like Danica.

— 3 —

Political take #3. I have said before that I love Suzan DelBene, my Congressional representative. This is just one reason why. (Clergy, by the way, would be huge losers under this tax plan as would any self-employed person.)

— 4 —

Political take #4. I saw a tweet from Andrew T. Walker on the election of Danica Roem and needed to respond.

Srsly?!?!?

Yes, Danica Roem is transgendered as are a few other politicians elected on Tuesday. Yes, Jenny Durkan, the mayor-elect of Seattle, is a lesbian. (When I found this out, my response was literally, “OK?” I care more about the fact that she has ideas for fixing the issue of homelessness and her ability to deal with the sanctuary city issue than I do about what she does in her private life.) Somehow this is going to warp our children?

Seriously, y’all, teach your kids to treat *EVERY* person they encounter with dignity and maybe you’ll be contributing to building a better society.

School news. I’m challenging Business English this quarter because I don’t think I should have to take it. (The Regents of the University of California feel I satisfied my writing requirements after passing the English Composition/Literature AP Test with a score of 4. I also passed the Subject A examination prior to starting at UC Santa Cruz. In other words, WHY AM I HAVING TO TAKE YET ANOTHER ENGLISH CLASS?!?!?!?)

Anyway, I have to sit the challenge test so I have been working through exercises in the Business English book. In doing this, I discovered that the inclusive language policy at my seminary screwed up my ability to use pronouns correctly. This made me a “little” grumpy…

Me being me.

My test got postponed to this coming Monday because the instructor was ill. This means that I have more time to study pronoun usage and agreement with their antecedents. Wheeeeeeee!!!

— 6 —

Sweatpants and coffee. I discovered the awesomeness that is the Sweatpants and Coffee Facebook page this week. I have been sharing pictures like this one on my feed because it describes my curmudgeonly nature *SO* well!

I love the DON'T STAB part...

Veterans Day. Thank your favorite veteran for their service this weekend. They make this country a better and safer place every day.

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung: The Simple Woman’s Daybook for October 29, 2017

For Today…

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… dark. It started out quite foggy this morning and it eventually burned off in the afternoon.

I am thinking… about my coffee date with a classmate to do work tomorrow.

I am thankful… for typos in the bulletin that lead to mirth during worship.

One of my favorite things… sleep.

I am wearing… jammies. Church this morning was my turquoise/black/white bokeh print dress, black cardigan, black camisole, black tights, and black flats. After that, it was a long-sleeved blue-green shirt and jeans.

I am creating… folders, quick steps, and tasks in Outlook.

I am reading listening to… various things online.

I am hoping… I get stuff done in a timely fashion this week.

I am learning… various things in Outlook.

In my kitchen… pot roast, carrots, multi-colored potatoes, and salad for dinner.

In the school room… I had a great time with Daniel on his class field trip to the pumpkin patch last week.

A moment from my day… Our anthem from this morning.

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung: Zombie Frappucino

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung

I got a few notifications on my phone from $tarbux about their Zombie Frappucino and decided to try it today while I was out with Daniel. (By the way, the $tarbux app for phone is worth its weight in gold. You can order before you leave the house and skip most (if not all) of the standing and weighting around. Best app on my phone.)

My verdict: Not bad. It’s a fake apple flavor (which I actually like) with dark mocha drizzle and pink whipped cream to represent braaaaaaaaiiinnnsssss. I won’t replace my normal order with it until the promotion ends but it was good to try once.

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung: The Simple Woman’s Daybook for October 22, 2017

For Today… October 22, 2017

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… still a little cloudy but more sun than we’ve seen in a week. We had lots of rain and strong winds that knocked over planters in the yard.

I am thinking… my Electronic Communication assignment that is due tomorrow.

I am thankful… for fun at my grandma’s birthday party last night.

One of my favorite things… salami and brie baguettes from Haggen.

I am wearing… charcoal fitted tee from Old Navy and jeans. Church clothes were the tee paired with black slacks, my black cardigan, and black flats.

I am creating… reports in Sage. Whee!

I am reading… Reddit subs.

I am hoping… the Internet stays functional. It was spazzing last night and this morning.

I am learning… best practices for Skype.

In my kitchen… leftover stinky cheeses from my cousin’s wine and cheese 50th birthday party last weekend. Mmmmm… Cambozola!

In the school room… I get to go to the pumpkin patch with Daniel this week for school.

Post Script… some commentary on Patheos giving Mark Driscoll some blogging space.
