Duuuuuuuude… You Gotta Listen To This!!!!!!!!!

This week’s Wait Wait — Don’t Tell Me! is soooooo cool. They had the story about Chelsea’s “dowry” (which is a source of amusement to both Jon’s and my family because my brideprice was 50 goats), a comment that a mouse eating an albatross was “like a tabby attacking a hippopotamus” (I have tabbies), and they have Janet Evanovich on the show (who is a kick).

Go to the website tonight and listen!!!!!!!!!!

Breathing a Sigh of Relief

To the nice sheriff’s deputy who flashed your lights at me while pointing downward:
Thank you for having mercy on me and not giving me a ticket. I did not realize I was going 70 in a 55 zone. Uff da! I hope that you get some very good coffee and doughnuts in Dawson or wherever you were heading.
Love,
jen

Ummm… Desperate, Are We?

I’d heard offhand (probably through Wait Wait — Don’t Tell Me!) about some guy whose friends had put up a billboard of him in order to get him a wife. My first reaction is… how desperate are they?!?!? Second reaction: what kind of weird place are they from? This had to be somewhere in the South or in San Francisco (NorCal people: do not spam me — you can so see this happening in the Bay Area), right?

Well… it is a weird place: Salt Lake City, Utah, a.k.a. Mormon Mecca. (I actually want to go back there and stay a few days because being within 50 miles of SLC was like being in a city in another country and the culture fascinates me as a scholar of religion.) Apparently, he’s 31 (!!!!!) and still single, so his friends and co-workers decided to help him out a bit. There’s a website attached to said billboard and people are actually vying to date him. (I thought about filling out the application as a joke but realized that it would be cruel if I was actually chosen.)

Even better: Heather of Dooce has met him. Her take on this whole thing is here. (Warning: Probably not suitable for children under 3 and people who take themselves too seriously.)

The Living of These Days

I have introspective schtuff on my mind but I’m saving it for the Blogathon so that I have something to write about.

The weather has muchly cooled down here. It’s about 77F now which is a pretty comfy temp. Jon and I walked last night and I was actually chilly! That’s kind of strange for July…

It’s kind of a quiet time in the church because it’s summer, VBS has already happened, and people are at the lake. I’ve been working on my mom’s birthday present (a baby blanket that will be donated to Project Linus) and tweaking random things on my Blogathon page. I’m finding that I’m listening to a lot of NPR, CBC, and BBC radio while I crochet — NPR is always interesting and it’s kind of fun to hear the news from Canada and the UK.

Identity

The local LCMS pastor’s wife is thinking about homeschooling 5 of her kids next year and I offered to see if I could find her some resources in the community to help her out. I gathered them and I went over there a little while ago to get out of the house for a few minutes.

I rang the doorbell and some of the kids answered. I asked if their mom was home and they ran to go get her. As they ran through the house, I heard them yelling “Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! It’s the pastor’s wife! It’s the pastor’s wife!”

That just so made my day because it was so cute!!!
