About Jen

Jen isn't quite sure when she lost her mind, but it is probably documented here on Meditatio. She blogs because the world needs her snark at all hours of the night... and she probably can't sleep anyway.

The Move

So we’re now down in southern California and have been here for about a week. The move did not go smoothly or as planned. We were still packing on Saturday when people arrived to help load the truck. We didn’t get to leave on Sunday as planned because of a flat tire (which led to the front two tires being replaced on the car on Monday morning) and this meant that we had to change the itinerary a bit and do three long days of driving instead of 2 short and two longer ones.

However… it all worked out.

We’re still getting unpacked in our cottage (which we refer to as the Snuggery), mostly due to the crib hardware disappearing during the move (and me having to make a trip to Orchard Supply Hardware to replace it today) and the fact that it’s… well… snug. It seems like every time we unpack a box, we have to create another box of things to go into storage because I didn’t quite pare things down enough. There’s also me dealing with a pinched nerve in my back (which decommissioned me for Saturday and Sunday), the massive amount of errands to do to establish residency, and just… stuff. Jon is sleeping down there and Daniel and I are staying with my in-laws who are graciously watching him while Jon and I unpack and deal with the whole “establishing residency” thing.

I do want to ask prayers for my father-in-law as he is dealing with health issues and is undergoing some rather painful diagnostic tests so that the doctors know how to proceed. Email me if you want the details on that.

Can We Say “Sore Loser”?

NBCOlympics.Com: Plushenko rips Lysacek; Russia won’t challenge outcome

Plushenko has been so b*tchy about this that it’s actually pretty funny. First, he complained about his start time in the short program. Well… he got that late start time in the free skate and still managed to lose. If you compare his program to Lysacek, Lysacek wins in pretty much every way. He had artistry — Plushenko was robotic. Lysacek landed ALL his jumps cleanly. Plushenko — not so much.

I’d also prefer Lysacek as the gold medalist anyway — his graciousness and humility just adds to his medal while Plushenko’s unsportsmanlike conduct just detracts from his. Lysacek went in just wanting to skate his best — he didn’t go in with the attitude that he “deserved” a place on the podium. Plushenko, on the other hand, doesn’t “deserve” anything… other than maybe a swift kick in the pants.

Sheer Lunacy

I’ve got Headline News on while I take care of paperwork and attempt to clean the downstairs. They’re going to have Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat Pray Love) on to talk about love and marriage and her new book, Committed, where she examines marriage.

OK… this is the woman who wrote in a whining tone about OMG how she didn’t want to be married to her husband and so she had an affair in the first part of Eat Pray Love.? I’m really not thinking she’s the best person to talk about marriage?? Not to mention, she ended her first marriage for purely selfish reasons and people are actually *celebrating* this.

The fact that she’s being lauded for her second book gives me very little hope for my generation.

10 Things That Make Me Happy

HT: Tracey

In no particular order.

01.) Daniel. He is the light of my life.
02.) Jon. We’ve been together for 10 years now, married for almost 8 of them.
03.) Smoking Gun: World’s Dumbest
04.) My cats. They’re my fur-kids.
05.) Iced vanilla lattés.
06.) My family.
07.) Lipton’s Pureleaf Raspberry Tea.
08.) Blogging.
09.) Facebook. Pathetic, I know.
10.) Crocheting.

Yes, I know I didn’t mention my faith. That one is assumed.

How You Can Pray for Us

As I said in my last post, we’re moving to southern California at the end of February, and we’re doing it kind of blind. We don’t have jobs, Jon tentatively has supply-preaching lined up, and we’ve got people trying to find us a place to live. People have asked what they can do right now and at the moment, the best thing is to pray/throw good energy our way.

Here are the things that need to be prayed for:

[=] A smooth move with no complications (or very little ones if any).
[=] A place to live when we get there. Got that one covered on 2/8
[=] Job prospects for both Jon and Jen.
[=] For the funds to be available for the move. The Synod is coming through on that.
[=] Enough money to take care of groceries, rent, utilities, and any other daily needs.
[=] A good doctor for Daniel.
[=] Good health for all three of us for the next few months.

As prayers are answered or more needs arise, I’ll update this. This entry will stick at the top of the page so scroll down to see anything new.
