Because I’m Nosy This Way…

For all my readers who are Christian:

What do you use for devotions/quiet time/bonding with Jesus?

About Jen

Jen isn't quite sure when she lost her mind, but it is probably documented here on Meditatio. She blogs because the world needs her snark at all hours of the night... and she probably can't sleep anyway.

  1. Currently, I get scripture portion in e-mail every day . . . something from the OT (currently 1st Samuel), something from the poetry books, and something from the NT (Romans). I also keep a prayer journal.

And beginning on Sunday, I’ll be adding something new. My church is starting a “First Place” weight loss program, and that has a daily lesson, as well as scripture memorization.

I also sing a lot – right now I’m singing in my head because I have no voice, but I sing hymns and choruses, and I’ll occasionally listen to the radio, to the local Christian station.

Since it’s about a 30 minute drive to anything (church, groceries, affordable gas), and it’s through beautiful forest, if I’m alone, I use that time to pray.

  2. John MacAurthur Study Bible (one chapter in the NT, one in the OT per day) and TableTalk Magazine.

  3. – lectio divina, using the Anglican Church of Canada’s daily readings
    – my mats (to sit zazen)… a wonderful process of emptying, so that I may be filled

I get to do enough “head stuff” with the scriptures, because of my life-work as a minister, so I try to make my devotional time far more “heart-centred”.

  4. Generally, I will meditate on whatever Scripture I’m on for that day — the NT once every 2 months = 5 chaps/day & the OT once every six months = ??

I also enjoy Charles Haddon Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening.

  5. Working though The Message, currently in Issiah and Prayer. Can’t say I’m on regular routine, I aim for daily but some weeks are better than others.

    – Peace

  6. I’m currently doing “Believing God” by Beth Moore. I’ve also got Kay Arthur’s inductive study Bible, which is awesome.
