What Country Is This?

I received an email today about a demonstration yesterday. In it, 16 people were arrested for protesting the leader of the country. Two of those arrested had bogus charges levied against them.

  • A cleric was charged with “assaulting a police officer” because the officer claimed that the cleric touched him. In reality, the cleric was pushed to the ground from behind while holding up his hands and saying “I am not resisting.”
  • A veteran was charged with resisting arrest after falling down while trying to get into the paddy wagon that would take him to jail.

All in all, 16 people were arrested for “civil disobedience”. Want to guess which country this was in? Click on the (more…) for the answer.

These arrests were of people protesting Bush’s speech at the U.N. in New York yesterday as he outlined plans for Iran. Yes, these were in the USA.

Gee… I now live in a country where my guaranteed freedoms are severely restricted. (That would be freedom of speech and freedom of assembly in this case.) You know… most Middle Eastern countries are looking kind of good right now.

  1. Sadly, I didn’t have to click on the “more” link to know that was the US. I couldn’t agree more that things are getting kind of scary here with the restricting of our freedoms. The last I checked Protesting was one of the highest forms of Patriotism.
