FOR TODAY September 28, 2014
Outside my window… dark. Jon and I got home from San Diego and Thousand Oaks about an hour ago.
I am thinking… about the stupidity of Caltrans doing roadwork on the 210 while people are trying to get back from LA during fairly normal hours. I mean, I know they’re putting in more Metrolink track or something but it created a pretty nasty traffic jam!
I am thankful… for no cobra sightings in Thousand Oaks! On a more normal note, I’m thankful for some married couple time in San Diego with Jon this weekend and for my in-laws watching him so I could go.
In the kitchen… nothing at the moment — we got home after dinner and it was cleaned for the night.
I am wearing… my online debate team t-shirt and black capri sweats.
I am praying for… the ability to forgive some people in my life, for Daniel to have a good day at school tomorrow, for a call for Jon, for healing for my foot, and for some special intentions.
I am going… to curl up in bed with Edda and watch last week’s NCIS on my laptop when I’m done with this entry.
I am wondering… about the smaller raccoon that has been coming by in the evenings — is it a boy or girl and is it just a kit?
I am reading… nothing. I finished Steeped in Evil by Laura Childs this evening and my NOOK copy of Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good by Jan Karon keeps screwing up my e-reader. I think I’ll re-read Evolving in Monkey Town by Rachel Held Evans.
I am hoping… we can figure out what is going on with my NOOK.
I am looking forward to… cooler weather coming eventually though I think I have one hellishly hot weekend to go before that happens. It was in the 70’s and 80’s this past weekend (while I was gone) and it’s going to be around 101F this coming Saturday… while I’m supposed to be outside at a neighborhood Halloween party.
I am hearing… traffic on the 210 and my computer’s fan.
Around the house… it looks perfect thanks to my mother-in-law’s efforts.
A favorite quote for today… “The only moral it is possible to draw from this story is that one should never throw the Q letter into a privet bush, but unfortunately there are times when it is unavoidable.” — Douglas Adams, (The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
One of my favorite things… ice.
A few plans for the rest of the week: conference call on Tuesday morning, dentist appointment on Wednesday, and various things throughout the week.
A peek into my day… Here are some shots from San Diego this morning.

Jon was preaching at the church his great-grandfather founded this morning and I tagged along. I wore the outfit from this week but with flip-flops instead of my pretty shoes because my right foot was being spazzy and it’s easier to have it taped up in flip-flops.
Shirt: Kohl’s
Pants: Kohl’s
Necklace: family “jewels” made of blue glass from Herat, Afghanistan
Flip-Flops: Old Navy
As this is kind of the ancestral home of my in-laws’ Lutheran dynasty I decided to get some pictures. The first one is of Jon’s grandfather who was their first pastor.
Here is the parish house (fellowship hall). It and the church building were intentionally built in style of the California missions so as to blend in with the neighborhood and city at the time.
Here is the church building. I don’t have any pictures of the sanctuary because it was too dark.
And finally a picture of Jon teaching Adult Sunday school. I have no idea where his clothes are from so I’m not adding that element to this. I believe that his great-grandfather made the baptismal font and lectern behind him.
Hosted by The Simple Woman’s Daybook For more of what people wore on Sunday, go visit the pretty ladies at Fine Linen and Purple. Oh… and Emily, one of the chicas behind Fine Linen and Purple, kicked some Akron marathon @$$ on Saturday so go congratulate her.
Aw thanks for the love, Jen!
What a neat heritage to celebrate ! I know the church was blessed to have y’all . And what a blessing to have the married couple time. I hope your foot feels better. Have a blessed week ! Lora Lee
