Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March 21, 2011

Outside my window… sunshine after storms.

I am thinking… about all the patient assistance stuff and bureaucracy to deal with to try and get some of Daniel’s hospital bills written off or paid by the state.

I am thankful for… Daniel being discharged.

From the kitchen… not sure tonight.

I am wearing… black v-neck shirt, pj bottoms

I am creating… a baby blanket and this entry.

I am going… to UCD Medical Center tomorrow for Daniel’s Coumadin Clinic appointment and various other places this week.

I am reading… Legs Benedict by Mary Daheim.

I am hoping… Daniel’s clot goes away so I don’t have to do 2 1/2 more months of shots on him.

I am hearing… Finian purring and Daniel whining.

Around the house… stuff to unpack.

One of my favorite things… having a snuggly child again.

A few plans for the rest of the week: doctor’s appointments, mid-week Lenten services.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing… My wedding bouquet and the rings. (My 9th anniversary is Wednesday.)

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March 14, 2011

Outside my window… dark. My laptop was refusing to start this morning so I had to wait until now to post.

I am thinking… about the Lovenox shots that I’ll be giving for the next few months to Daniel because of the blood clot in his leg caused by the central line. I’m also somewhat terrified that he’s not going to pass his swallow study and end up going home on the feeding tube.

I am thankful for… Daniel being on the peds ward now, for my laptop working, for Mom being empathetic, for the charge nurse snuggling Daniel for much of today, and for the student nurses entertaining him in the playroom.

From the kitchen… still eating hospital food.

I am wearing… my We Will Not Be Silent shirt and my penguin pajama bottoms.

I am creating… a baby blanket for Lent (which I really should work on) and this entry.

I am going… home with Daniel hopefully Wednesday but definitely by the end of this week.

I am reading… A Decadent Way to Die by G.A. McKevett

I am hoping… Daniel passes his swallow study tomorrow.

I am hearing… Daniel’s roommate screaming (justifiably — the poor kid had corrective surgery that involved bones today)

Around the house… haven’t been home in 2 weeks

One of my favorite things… my shower at the Ronald McDonald House today.

A few plans for the rest of the week: hopefully going home with Daniel

Here is picture for thought I am sharing… Daniel and I in the playroom.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook: March 1, 2011

I almost lost Daniel tonight so pardon me if I’m a bit bitter and cynical.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March 1, 2011

Outside my window… the hallway to the MSICU and the PICU where Daniel is.

I am thinking… about how I’m going to get through this time of Daniel being in the PICU.

I am thankful for… Daniel rebounding and not needing to go on ECMO.

From the kitchen… I’m eating out of the hospital cafeteria — when I have an appetite.

I am wearing… grey shirt and pajama bottoms.

I am creating… this entry.

I am going… nowhere anytime soon except the bathroom and the PICU. (I’m banished to the “quiet room” tonight because they need to keep Daniel’s room open in case ECMO has to happen tonight.)

I am reading… Auntie Mayhem by Mary Daheim.

I am hoping… Daniel pulls through this soon and his lungs start making a turnaround. Mostly, I’m just hoping he makes it through the night without any more problems.

I am hearing… Jon sleeping, the ventilation system, occasional alarms. God willing, I will not hear “Code Blue: Tower 7 PICU.”

Around the house… I’m at UC Davis Medical Center. I don’t know when I’ll see the parsonage again.

One of my favorite things… the amount of support from family, friends, and parishioners. Also the way the nurses take care of me in addition to Daniel.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Being here in Sacramento at the UCD MC PICU.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing… My life is too horrific at the moment to photograph.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY February 7, 2011

Outside my window… sunny and warm. Ordinarily I’d rail against this being unnatural, but it’s good weather for storage and packing to move.

I am thinking… about the debate on married priests at Simcha’s blog.

I am thankful for… my mother-in-law watching Daniel so I can pack, throw stuff away and try to get life arranged for the next week.

From the kitchen… Trader Joe’s tomato soup and pastry bites.

I am wearing… jeans, a green v-neck short-sleeved shirt, and flip-flops.

I am creating… this blog entry. 🙂

I am going… various places — Target when I’m done here.

I am reading… Bone Appetit by Carolyn Haines

I am hoping… that I can get the whole kitchen DONE by this weekend.

I am hearing… podcasts.

Around the house… boxes and garbage bags abound.

One of my favorite things… TJ’s iced tea-lemonade

A few plans for the rest of the week: packing, PT/OT, choir practice, and packing. Did I mention packing?

Here is picture for thought I am sharing… Freya helping me pack.Freya helping me pack.

FOR TODAY January 31, 2011

Outside my window… sunshine and beauty after the clouds and rain of yesterday.

I am thinking… about all the packing and stuff that has to be done before we move on the 17th.

I am thankful for… one of the people at Jon’s new parish throwing a “get-to-know-you” party for me the week after we move up there.

From the kitchen… nothing homemade — that’s for sure!

I am wearing… jeans, a brown shirt with a floral-lace pattern on it.

I am creating… this entry. 🙂

I am going… to probably be sticking close to home this week.

I am reading… The Alpine Kindred by Mary Daheim.

I am hoping… I can get a fair amount packed and cleaned out this week.

I am hearing… “This Is My Father’s World” by Fernando Ortega.

Around the house… sweeping, mopping, and packing to do.

One of my favorite things… blocking out the world for two hours while I check email.

A few plans for the rest of the week: packing a box every day (my mother-in-law’s deal with me) as well as PT/OT for Daniel.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing… Daniel walking with some help.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY January 24, 2011

Outside my window… Sunny and chilly. (I’m in northern California with my parents.)

I am thinking… that I really want a nap and I hope the little bear decides that naps are not just for babies.

I am thankful for… my friend Noe delivering her little girl Maia safely on the 21st.

From the kitchen… steak, mushrooms, and rice with pesto from last night. Also raspberry gelato.

I am wearing… green shirt and jeans.

I am creating… a Twitter account for the San Jose Promise Walk for Preeclampsia. (Click on the image on my sidebar if you want to sponsor me.)

I am going… to Walgreens at some point to get my prescriptions.

I am reading… Saks and Violins by Mary Daheim.

I am hoping… my mom’s cat Homer comes out and curls up with me. Also that Daniel goes down for his nap.

I am hearing… something scientific from the living room (Dad is watching it) and Daniel grumping in the guest room.

Around the house… I’m dreading the clean-up that will be needed at the Snuggery after being gone for 5 days.

One of my favorite things… sunny places to nap.

A few plans for the rest of the week: heading back up to Sac tomorrow, driving home on Wednesday, PT on Friday, and whatever else comes up.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY January 17,2011

Outside my window… sunny and warm. It doesn’t seem real for January, especially as I spent 9 Januaries outside of California in much colder climates.

I am thinking… about all the stuff that needs to get done/arranged in the next few weeks. I function internally and my mind is constantly working.

I am thankful for… the pregnancies of my college and online friends going well. Two are due pretty soon and one is due in 4 months. Also thankful that Daniel’s godparents got good news from the ultrasound of their baby on Friday.

From the kitchen… nothing fancy. I think a TJ’s run might be in order.

I am wearing… jeans, a black polo shirt, and running shoes.

I am creating… a podcast outline.

I am going… nowhere outside my normal 15-mile radius as far as I know.

I am reading… “The Alpine Quilt” by Mary Daheim.

I am hoping… things proceed in an orderly and timely fashion with the BIG thing in my life.

I am hearing… “As the Bridegroom to His Chosen” by John Rutter. (A good YouTube video with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing it is available here.)

Around the house… I’m hoping to get some sweeping/mopping done tonight.

One of my favorite things… Daniel’s smile and laughter when we’re clapping out nursery rhymes.

A few plans for the rest of the week: OT/PT for Daniel

Here is picture for thought I am sharing… A quilt that was made by Jewel Benjamin, a wonderful friend and sister in Christ of mine from Montana. I think of her every time I see the quilt.

A beautiful quilt made for me by a wonderful woman friend in Montana.
