Rachel does ask too many questions but she asks *good* ones. I recommend taking a look at her questions. I think they need to be pondered by people on *both* sides of the abortion issue.

The 411 on the Layout and Move
OK… those of you who link to me got the email asking you to please (pleasepleasepleaseplease) change the link from /magnificat to /meditatio. Here’s the explanation:
The Move
I had been planning to go back to using /meditatio for a long time after the [site who must not be named] fiasco last August. /magnificat was just a temporary blog which I was going to upgrade eventually to MT. Well… Krissy talked me out of it and convinced me that b2 would be good. I’d used b2 for Chicks with Sticks and Proverbial Women and really liked the platform. Krissy graciously installed it for me and then went on AIM to be my tech support. I got the layout up a few days later. All my archives from /magnificat have been imported and God willing, my archives from /narnia and the old /meditatio can also be imported.
The Layout
The background is green because I’m trying to keep with liturgical colors and since it’s Epiphany, the colors are green and white. The site is just a bunch of tables. Props to nessahead from the b2 forums for the coding for a unique template. And of course, props to the Duckie Goddess herself for fielding my frantic emails and being so helpful.
Oh yes… if your link to me points to /magnificat, please change it to /meditatio as soon as you can. Thanks!
The blogs4God.com “Anti-Massacre Movement”
Various people have weighed in on the blogs4God.com Anti-Massacre Movement posting made by Kat. There were people who read it and felt disgusted and there were dissentions. (Click on the various linked words text to see the responses.) I thought I’d add my 2 cents on the situation.
I think Kat made a serious error of judgement in the way she handled the posting. She had an opportunity to mention that it was the 30th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade and that abortion was a problem and she chose to go about it in a very callous way. I understand the passion of her pro-life stance and I think she should express it, but it would be prudent for her to remember that not everyone on here is in the same place as her as far as our beliefs on abortion.
I knew people in college who had abortions and none of them were proud of it. It was an immensely painful thing and many were in therapy to deal with it. I wish abortion didn’t exist but I don’t think that banning it will extinguish it. Instead, we should be preventing the situations that would make abortion an option. Instead of showing our kids pictures of aborted fetuses, let’s let them know why sex should be saved until marriage. Instead of presenting abortion as the best option for dealing with an unwanted pregnancy, let’s make adoption information more readily available. Instead of throwing them out on the street, let’s support them during the pregnancy and help them carry the child to full-term. Instead of letting the television industry show our children people who engage casually in pre-marital sex, let’s boycott the advertisers for those shows and insist on programs which show the strength of marriage. In the rare cases (and I mean RARE) where it is medically necessary, let’s not shun the women. I don’t think any of them relish the idea that they are killing their child.
I’ve emailed Kat to this effect but… I am praying that she takes down the posting and either edits it or replaces it with what she had in her journal.
Oh yes… a very balanced response. (via Ellen)

These are the pics from the meet-up I had with Ellen (Stranger in a Strange Land).

O Lordy…
There was a frat fight that killed someone in San Jose. Apparently, some of the frat people were from UCSC. There are no frats allowed on campus so I’m amazed that we’re being implicated.
Sick… again
Well… the virus given to me by my in-laws has reared its ugly head. I woke up yesterday with severe stomach pain and had to have Jon call me in sick to work. (I’m amazed that I’m still working there since I’ve been out more days than I’ve been in this month.) I spent the day praying that it wasn’t a.) a Crohn’s flare up or b.) appendicitis since appendicitis is a hereditary condition in my family. (I’m the only one of my cousins over the age of 21 that hasn’t had it on my mom’s side. Mom is the only one of her siblings who hasn’t had it.) Oh yes… Jon’s scar from his scalp surgery started bleeding profusely yesterday morning so when he woke me up for help, he was covered with blood from his head to his waist. (I got the bleeding stopped and the doctor on call told me that I’d done all the right things and to get him stitched up if he started bleeding again.)
If I’m not on a lot in the next few days, it’s because I’m in bed. I have to work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday this week and I’m praying that I can get through all of those shifts. I worked on the 11th and barely made it through my shift after the first part of this virus.
This morning, I tuned into the religious channels (PAX and EWTN) for some edification since I missed church for the first time since August. (I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve missed church in the last two years if that tells you anything.) On PAX, they were playing some Vineyard settings of Psalms. On EWTN, there was a speaker on teaching teens about sex and dating. I then caught part of Mass before turning off the TV to engage in some LBW Matins. Jon brought me Communion which was really nice. (There are some advantages about being married to a pastoral intern.)
Contemporary Worship Paper
I just mailed off a copy of my contemporary worship paper to my college fellowship leader. Does anyone else want a copy? (Email me if you do.)
