Is This Really What We Want?

HT: Neil

There are various states who have propositions to ban same-sex marriage or to keep the definition of “traditional” marriage.Â? While I’m all in favor of “traditional” marriage and all that jazz,Â? there’s the problem of said amendments and such being used to protect those who are committing acts of domestic violence.Â? Is protecting the sanctity of marriage so important that to do so, we’re going to deny the basic right to safety to some woman shacking up with her boyfriend who is beating the crap out of her?

I’m not entirely sure that this is what we want…

  1. I’d never considered that particular angle before.

My concern (it’s on VA’s ballot this fall) is that VA’s proposed law would make anything that resembles any aspect of marriage illegal between 2 people of the same sex. This would could possibly include owning a home, and definately includes things like benefits, wills, and estates.

I think that people are taking this way too far. All to protect an institution that ends in divorce 50% of the time. My take on the matter is who cares what someone else does, as long as it doesn’t affect me.
