My Desk

My big massive desk got broken into pieces during the move because the Minnesota people didn’t believe it would go back down the stairs in one piece.Â? (Of course, it went UP the stairs in one piece so I’m not sure why it wouldn’t go DOWN.)Â? Consequently, it’s a safety hazard because it’s starting to lean.

I’m looking at IKEA stuff.Â? Anyone got thoughts on them, especially on their shipping since I don’t live near one?

  1. I have an INGO Ikea table, because it seemed like a much better option than a desk (cheaper, more versatile, etc.)… but I do use it as a desk. Generally it suits all my needs, except for the extreme lack of storage, having no drawers. But I use numerous tins and jars to hold what I need held and organized.

Generally, I find Ikea’s quality pretty cheap… what you get there generally isn’t a lifetime quality purchase. It’ll last you for a few years.

I think Ikea subcontracts it’s shipping, or recommends you to a shipping service.

  2. I partially agree with Michelle on the quality statement. Some of their stuff is drek, while other things will hold up quite nicely over time. Also many of their desks don’t have a lot of storage (you’d have to buy the corresponding drawer pieces).

If you have any questions about certain desk models you can ask me. We’ve got an IKEA just down the road and I’ve got a good memory, so chances are if I look at the model on line I can give you some good feedback about it.
