Ahem Anti-Vaccination People!

CNN.Com: 9th baby in California dies from whooping cough

If this isn’t evidence of the danger of not vaccinating your kids and not keeping your vaccinations up, I don’t know what is. C’mon people! Let’s talk collective immunity of a community here! This is a preventable disease!!!!!!

  1. Preach it, Sistah! We live in a community with a lot of dreadlock wearing, patchouli stinking, granola eating, armpit hair displaying, non-vaccinating hippies. Last year the local high school had an epidemic of whooping cough.

There is a thing called “community immunity” where, if a certain percentage of people in a community get the vaccine, chances are that community will not get a disease. It works the other way too, that if less than that percentage get the vaccine, you could suffer an outbreak. Guess which we are in this town.

I’ll have to see if I can get a picture of a flyer that is posted in several spots around town, that in essence says, “I want my child to grow up naturally – fresh air, clean water, surrounded by nature [this is a very rural community]” . . . and it goes on and on . . . “and whooping cough, measles, and polio. Yes those are natural too. If you don’t vaccinate your children, you run the risk of subjecting them, and the whole community to diseases that we thought we’d eradicated. Please vaccinate your children.”
