Al Franken’s New Book

I absolutely love the title of Al Franken’s new book: Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. It’s almost as good of a title as Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot: And Other Observations. I mean… how can you not laugh at titles like that???

I also found the lawsuit by FOX News to be hysterically funny — I mean… Rush Limbaugh didn’t sue over the title of the last book which could count pretty well as slander. FOX News is also hardly fair and balanced. They show freaks like O’Reilly and Hannity and Colmes. Franken’s book is eminently more of a balanced view than that of those jokers.

I think the subtitle of ::Meditatio:: is going to become “fair and balanced”.

Anyone who sends me a copy of the newest book will have my perpetual gratitude. 🙂

About Jen

Jen isn't quite sure when she lost her mind, but it is probably documented here on Meditatio. She blogs because the world needs her snark at all hours of the night... and she probably can't sleep anyway.

  1. Love the new subtitle. I really cannot wait to read this new book. After Why Not Me? I was hoping some presidential candidate would take on an anti-ATM fee platform…maybe this book will make some better progress ;P. If there is one thing Franken always brings is poltical satire that is actually funny while being based on many facts…not just rumors and stuff from Rush Limbaugh’s own fact checker…

  2. i’m really curious about this book. love the beginning of the title. i think that i would be SLIGHTLY irritated, though, if he assumes that the problem is only with the right (since i’m totally against the extremes of either the right or the left). i still want to read it.

about fox. so totally not fair and balanced. however, i think they are meaning to balance out the lack of conservative viewpoints on tv. not that they do a good job at it really. they have some REALLY leading headlines. heck, this conservative talk show host that i like even mocks them (and he is, incidentally, reading that book by al franken right now).

the thing is, bill o’reilly does say some good things. he also talks a lot of crap that i totally disagree with. i think i’m biased though because i think he is REALLY attractive for some reason. 😉

hannity and colmes though isn’t right wing, it’s right and left. it’s like a debate thing. maybe that’s why they think they are balanced? lol.

  3. Great stuff, Jen. BTW, everytime I see or hear “fair and balanced” I immediately think “prejudiced and biased;” it’s a knee-jerk, Pavlovian thing 😉

  4. lol doug.

and jen, thanks for mentioning this book. i haven’t gotten it yet, but it got me looking at al franken’s other books, and i’m intrigued. a new author for me! yay! 🙂

  5. … after hearing how Franken ‘lied’ to sandbag prominent Christians about their stand on abstinence, I think I’ll just wait for the paperback to hit the public library …

  6. I find this very interesting. The book is terribly one sided, and not fair and balanced at all, much like CNN only telling their side.
Why not report, let people make up their own minds. I do believe we are all smart enough to live without CNN telling us how to make our bed, and butter our toast.
This book is not a good book. I was excited to read it, but now find that it was a waste of time and money. I hope someone buys it on ebay.
Your friend Jake at http://jakerinard.com sent me your way, said I would lvoe your site, and he was right. You have a very well rounded site.

  7. I am currently about half way through Franken’s new book. I think it is very enjoyable. Do I believe everything he says? No way, but I don’t think he’d fault anyone with that…many of the points he makes about Conservatives like Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Bernie Goldberg, etc…could also be made of him. He likes to point out lies that the above and others make either on TV or in their own books. It is obvious that many of the lies he points out are in fact lies, but I am sure that Franken has himself lied before whether in a book or on TV. The most important thing that makes Franken stand out, other than being a “Liberal Activist” (as mentions the Fox News article that Dean quotes, which is funny because I don’t think Franken would call himself a Liberal Activist…Michael Moore is a “liberal activist”, Al Franken is a Democratic activist…there is a difference) is that Franken is first and foremost a Comedian and Satirist. Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh, Goldberg, O’Reilly, etc are neither of these things. In the book Franken does not take himself too seriously and nor should the reader. Anyway…thats my rant. Anyway…I don’t agree with all Franken says, I don’t agree with all of his tactics, and I certainly don’t agree with all of his sometimes raunchy humor, but I respect that fact that he is a Satirist and he is good at what he does.
