Good thing: The wonderful people of Wait Wait — Don’t Tell Me! used Howard Dean’s scream as their buzzer on Saturday’s show
Even cooler thing: They referred to it as his “barbaric yawp”.
The even cooler thing than above: I actually know where the term comes from. 😀
I love NPR — they make me feel cool for being a smart person who reads way more than she should.
hmmm… sadly, I only know of “barbaric yawp” secondarily through the Dead Poet’s Society reference. ah well. I guess that’s as literary as some of us will ever get.
meanwhile, speaking of Dean’s scream, did you hear the Remix yet?

🙂
Yes, but the Dead Poets Soceity reference is directly from the literary reference. As in, it came from a “dead poet.” Sadly, that’s (nearly) the extent of my knowledge. Jen, will you share which dead poet and which poem?
I remember that the reference was from Whitman, I think. but yeah, I just meant it’s kinda sad when most of your literary knowledge is received from your television, even if it’s film. ah well.
It’s from “Song of Myself”.
