Fun With Food Labels

I was at TEH EVIL STORE today and saw the following on the label of a bottle of honey:

Og trans-fats!!!!

[sarcastic] That is just soooooo good to know! I mean, like, I hate it when my honey is all fatty and stuff? And it is, like, so good to know that I’m not going to get heart disease from these bee secretions![/sarcastic]

OK… honey is all sugar — why would anyone worry about trans-fats in their flipping honey?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

It’s been said that the best food is the stuff that doesn’t have labels on it promoting its nutritional value… like the fruits and vegetables in the produce section?

One Week

(Yes, I am ripping this entry idea off from Dreama. She’ll get over it.)

T-minus one week (and slightly less in hours and minutes) until the Blogathon starts at 7:00 am MDT! I’m blogging for Lutheran World Relief and I’d appreciate if all y’all could do the following:

  • Come visit me. 🙂 Yeah, my Blogathon site is separate from this domain (mostly because people found this blog last year as a result of the Blogathon blog) and I’d love if y’all would come and see what I have to say. I’ll probably put a redirect up on this site so that you’re forced to come to the site (yes… I’m evil that way) but I’d love to have you surf on over anyway. I’ll be updating every half hour for 24 hours and could use some cheerleaders. 🙂
  • Sponsor me!!!!!!!! I currently have $50 raised and I’m trying to at least hit my total from last year of $310. I’m blogging for a super cool organization that does amazing work all over the world in the areas of disaster relief, advocacy for economic fair trade, AIDS education, and hunger relief. There are also *lovely* sponsoring incentives.
  • Tell all the world about my blogging campaign! Link my blogathon site on your blog (that’s http://blogathon.peacefulwaters.org, not grace-filled.net) and let anyone who is remotely interesting (and also interested) know about it!!!!!

OK… enough pimping of my cause. There will be a lovely signature at the bottom of all posts for the next week so you’ll be reminded of it. 🙂

She Moved Through the Fair

We spent yesterday at the fair. We were there at 8:00 to watch our kids show their animals. I sat through judging on pigs, the finals of the market judging for lambs, and the first round of judging on steers.Â?Â? All my church kids got blue ribbons and some even placed in their divisions.Â? Granted, it wasn’t fascinating for me but I did get to hang out with my church peeps, have the whole showmanship/market competition explained to me, cheer on my kids, and get about a foot of my baby blanket done.Â? (No… I am not pregnant.Â? My cousin Joe’s wife Mary is with child and is due in August.)

I also saw the various crafts that were entered and have resolved to enter something next year, if for no other reason than I could probably do pretty well.Â? All the crocheted items were things I could make and it would be kind of cool to enter something and have that experience.

The other plus: Greek food! I had a gyro with extra tzatzaki sauce for dinner and baklava for dessert.Â? It wasn’t half as good as the stuff at St. Basil’s Greek festival but it was still pretty good!

Patience Was Never My Strong Suit…

Since some of you know about my flirtation with Orthodoxy, I’ll let you in on my search stuff.Â? I ordered a copy of Facing East: A Pilgrim’s Journey into the Mysteries of Orthodoxy a few days ago and they claim they shipped it on Monday.Â? Granted, it’s going Media Mail so it could be awhile but I’m still haunting the mailbbox daily for a key to one of the big boxes (since I have a tiny PO box as we have no mail delivery where I live) or for a padded mailing envelope.

Tomorrow is Maria’s Fair (the county fair for the surrounding 4 counties) and we’ll be there bright and early. (*grumble* I have to be up at 6 freaking 45 on my day off.Â? *grumble*)Â? I’m excited though to see what people are entering, especially my church kids.Â? I’ll be looking at sewing, swine, steers, rocketry, crafts, and a whole lot more.Â? I loved fair when we lived in Minnesota so I’m excited for tomorrow.

Pssssssst!

Nobody Is Innocent Here

I usually watch Countdown with Keith Olbermann to see what’s on Oddball and also who he has deemed the Worst Person in the World.Â? (It’s also a good way of keeping tabs on the stupidity that is Bill O’Reilly.)Â? Well… what I saw in the first 3 minutes of Countdown made me ashamed to be an American.

You see… the Idiot in the White House’s response to Lebanon calling for a ceasefire was to tell Israel to keep the civilian casualties to a minimum.Â? This is of course followed by the Israeli ambassador to the U.N. spitting back the whole “Axis of Evil” spiel which included pretty much all of the other countries in the Middle East.

Could someone please explain to me why the life of a Lebanese child is worth so much less than the life of an Israeli child?Â? Oh yeah… if the airports in Israel were taken out like the Israelis took out the Beirut airport, people would be up in arms all over the flipping world and the US would decimate whoever touched their airports.Â? So… explain to me why the infrastructure of Lebanon is worth so much less than the infrastructure of Israel?

Hezbollah should not have kidnapped the Israeli troops but… do you think that decimating the country of Lebanon is going to do anything other than infuriate them more so that more crap happens to Israeli troops?

Why the haitch-eee-double-hockey-sticks are we supporting a country with such a wretched human rights record?Â? Do we really think Jesus is going to come back and pat us on the backs for killing everyone off in the Middle East except for the state of Israel?

I am so ashamed of the idiot who claims to lead this country and of those people in this country who think what Israel is doing is right.
