Answer: Lutheranism and the Art of Gremlin-Keeping

Question: What has my week involved?

Lutheranism: The Call Process
One church votes on us tomorrow and also whether or not to make the parsonage pet-OK. (They know about two of our cats and that we’re not giving them up.) Another votes next week, has a cat-friendly parsonage, knows about the additions to our herd, and is also OK with me going to seminary. Please pray for both votes and please pray for our nerves. We’re both petrified that we won’t get either call. In all honesty, we’d really like the second one more but the first one would be wonderful if we could keep our cats.

As for where my faith is, it’s in existence and I know that we will be where the Lord wants us to be. However… our finances are going to be scary if we don’t get a call soon. I know God will provide and I know I shouldn’t be scared of all of this. I’m just a J and I need things to be laid out neatly. If only ministry weren’t such a P profession!

Gremlin-Keeping
Edda has given herself house privileges and she is getting along very well with Cullen. (They will touch noses and Cullen allowed her to curl up 2 inches from him under the bed today.) Finian is furious and growls/spits/hisses at the kittens. Freya… well… she’s still a little gremlin. (Because of her ears, her coloring, and her size, we call her the gremlin. She looks like Gizmo and is a little warrior princess.) She decided to roll around in her litterbox yesterday (WHY DO MY CATS INSIST ON DOING THIS?!??!?!?! EWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!) and take a nap in there, so she was treated to a rinse-off with warm water. She howled during it and slept wrapped in a hand towel (which covered her as a regular towel would cover the other three cats) as I dried to rub her dry in a way that simulated licking. (She wasn’t fostered around other cats — she was fostered with rotweilers.) Today, she decided that pouncing on my face was the appropriate way to show her affection after I brought her into the bedroom. (Edda was very insistent about running free through the house this morning. We worked on table manners today — she got squirted every time she jumped on the table.) Believe me… there is nothing that jolts you up faster than opening your eyes and seeing a face with fangs about to strike. I have a small bruise on my eye lid from her trying to nurse on it. (That got old after about 2 seconds.) She spent most of the day in her suite so that Jon and I could get yardwork done and Cullen/Edda could have a break from babysitting. (She terrorizes Cullen. She will go up to him and bat him. He won’t touch her because he knows that we’ll be mad. I wish he would bat back once just to show her that he has limits. CATS!!!!)

Misc. Friday Five

1. What food do you like that most people hate?

Sushi. Most people in these parts think I’m weird for eating it. Soy milk ice cream (mmmmmmmm…. Mint Marble Fudge) is a close second.

2. What food do you hate that most people love?

Brocolli, anything uber-greasy, anything pig-related

3. What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you?

Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, pretty much all the superstars

4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive?

I don’t know that there is anyone that people hate that I like. I’m really into such things.

5. What popular trend baffles you?

Your first marriage being your “practice one” (get some people skills y’all), a lot of the fashion trends where starlets are wearing skirts that don’t even cover their butts, a lot of the American Christian sub-culture (your kids can’t read Harry Potter but can read about even scarier stuff in the Left Behind books — yeah… that makes so much sense), the nouveau Reformed movement (how many of the uber-Reformed people on campus have actually *read* Calvin?) that are (probably unintentionally) giving off an air of pretentiousness, the movement of parents not to discipline their kids…

We Have Twins! (Sort Of)

When we went to pick Freya up at the vet this morning, there was a 4 month old black female kitten up for adoption as well. This one stole Jon’s heart, so we took her as well.

Possible Addition to the Family

No… I’m not pregnant. My addiction to sushi dipped in chocolate frozen yogurt is something else entirely. 🙂

We took Finian to the vet this morning to get something on his back looked at. (When I finally got him out from under the bed on Thursday, I noticed that there was an avacado pit-sized growth where his vaccinations were done 2 weeks ago.) The doctor drained part of it and gave us some antibiotics and prednisone to try and get it to unswell. Finn was a very good boy and didn’t complain once. (We also got him in his cage in only two tries and without blood being drawn. Boo yah!) The vet also only charged us for the meds because the office visit was related to the vaccines — $15 instead of $60. Double boo yah!

Anyway… the “addition” might be a little female tabby patch kitten. She’s being fostered by one of their clients and she walked over to me on the counter and started nuzzling my hands and loving me up. I have really wanted a tabby patch female, so I was really fighting the urge to adopt her then and there. Cindy (our favorite vet tech and my boys’ foster mommy) told me that if I wanted to think about it, she’d put me on the list. Unlike our boys, we’d have to pay a $50 donation for this one, which is more than worth it since she’s had most of her shots (which would probably be $100 alone) and has been tested for leukemia.

I’m hoping our boys would treat her well if we got her. She would be named Freya. (“Freya” was a Norse goddess who rode in a sleigh pulled by black cats. I also just love the name.)

A Mishmash of Politics Stuff

Sometimes, I really wish David Horsey was better known. He sums up my feelings perfectly on so many issues…

For those who are in favor of gun control (and exercising the 2nd Amendment responsibly), join the NRA Blacklist.

Anyone want to do me a favor and tell me what sectors contributed to the precipitous GDP growth, considering that the job market is still really tight and most of those new jobs created are with the Asian counterparts of American companies?

Then there’s this little song

We’re all Republicans now,
We’ve all come around somehow
We’re all wearing flight suits
With big parachutes.
We’re all Republicans now.
We’ll defend this land everywhere
From the comfort of our armchair.
We’re proud to be patriots, glad to be hawks.
We salivate whenever Rush talks.
We’re smarter and nicer and better than you.
We’re chosen to lead, and God says so too.
He’s a Republican
He’s a Republican
He’s a Republican now.

We’re all Republicans now,
We’ve all come around somehow
Even old Democrats
Can change their hats.
We’re all Republicans now.
Affirmative action must go
Unless it’s somebody we know.
We’ll put conservative judges back on the bench,
More executions, let’s start with the French,
No more free lunch, everybody must pay,
If you want health care, Canada is that way
We’re all Republicans
All Republicans
All Republicans now.
