Happy Jen

I get to help with VBS at a church in town!!!!!! *bouncebouncebounce* Four counselors from the local Bible camp are running it but they also need adults and helpers.

I went with Jon to the kickoff dinner tonight and it turns out that they need adults to help with supervision and all that. I haven’t gotten to do anything with VBS since 2003 so I am just muchly excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The female counselors also mentioned that they want to learn how to crochet. Ummm… I think I can help with that. 🙂

God or the Girl

If any of you have a chance to catch this on A&E (especially any Catholics or those discerning their call to ministry), I highly recommend it.Â? It takes 4 Catholic young men in their 20’s and traces their path of discernment over a month.Â? In the last episode, they make their decision and then it shows them 6 months later.

It was incredibly powerful for me to watch because I’ve been in their shoes (discerning a call to ordained ministry) though my decision didn’t have to be between God or marriage.Â? (Thank you Martin Luther for lifting the celibacy requirement for clergy!)Â? I’ve seen that since I gave up trying to place myself in seminary, the Lord has showed me a path that I hadn’t thought of taking that incorporates my gifts and is opening a door on finishing up my Master’s degree.Â? I am still discerning but I definitely related to the decision that one of the men made to stop actively discerning and to let the Almighty guide his steps and just live in the present.

For those who wonder about how the Roman Catholic Church is treated in this, be assured that it portrays these men as very “real” people and shows their emotions as they’re going through the process as well as how dedicated they are to their faith.Â? Their faiths are just so beautiful and inspiring and it showed me why I am thankful for the Church’s contribution to my Lutheran heritage.Â? (Martin Luther didn’t start kvetching until 1517.Â? That leaves more than 1450 years of the catholic [i.e. “universal”] Church and the Holy Spirit’s inspiration moving in this world.)

So… if you have an opportunity to see it, please watch it.Â? It is so worth your while.

Today (Well… Yesterday Since It’s Past Midnight)

  • Dinner with supercool parishioners: good
  • Offroading after making a wrong turn onto a farm trail: baaaaaad
  • The fact that my superneat 1987 Volvo survived said offroading: good
  • Getting job apps in SBY today: good
  • My order from BN.Com finally arriving today: good
  • Montana Muds with Amaretto syrup, diet Pepsi, and 2% milk: very good

Open House Prep

In a vain attempt to keep myself organized, here’s my to-do list for the open house prep:

-get the boxes out to the garage
-clean the bathroom
-clean the china (I’m using some of my good china for serving pieces)
-unpack everything else that needs to be unpacked or send it to the proper room
-make “do not enter” signs for the off-limits areas
-remove everything from the medicine cabinet (since there WILL be people who check it)
-thaw out food in freezer
-make cider
-arrange stuff for baking with Ka, Ke, and Ca.
-put up tree for Kl to decorate
-find tablecloths for the two tables
-figure out arrangement of living room and possible alternate seating upstairs
-put hampers in proper places
-wash bedspread so bedroom can be used for coats
-figure out what I want D to do
-make CD of cool Christmas music
-string up lights in living room

IT’S OVER AND DONE!!!!!!!!!! Now to just figure out who to pawn the leftover food off onto at church!

Somewhere in there, I also need to eat, shower, sleep, and breathe.

Some Possibilities

I’m looking at the possibility of working through the University of Great Falls to either do an M.S. in Counselling or the MAT Program, which gives teacher training to second career people. I’m kind of sick of being in limbo at the moment and the M.S. in Counselling would be good for working with hospice ministries which is what I’d really like to do.

Any thoughts?
