Meme of Fives

From Eucharis

10 years ago. In 10th grade. Doing accelerated classes and trying to figure out exactly who I was as a newly-minted Christian. Fighting a knee injury. Angsty and hating life.

5 years ago. Newly engaged. In my last year of college. Living in the dorms and hating the frosh that were living on my floor (I got stuck with the party crowd). Horribly depressed because I was missing Jon who was in Oregon doing CPE. Taking Medieval Europe, Religion and Social Change, and East Asian Religious Art.

1 year ago. Trying to adjust to life in Minnesota after our 2nd car was totalled. Praying for a job and that the new car loan would go through. Pissed off at the parish for not letting me teach Confirmation.

Yesterday. A purring 15-lb tabby settled on my bladder at 6. About 15 minutes later, I had to get up and use the facilities. I ended up not being able to get back to sleep so I showered and ate breakfast and did devos. I trudged through the fog and mud to BIG LUTHERAN CHURCH IN TOWN and after spent some time chatting with Krissy. Ate lunch out with Jon, came home, and took a nap. Went to hear a speaker with the gift of prophecy (which I actually accept as he told me some things that were interesting) and endured a healing with a couple who claim to have the gift of healing. (Will rant on this later.) Got home at 12:30, tossed down food, and went to sleep.

5 snacks I enjoy. Hummus and pita. Fruit. Chocolate Instant breakfast. Potato chips. Yogurt. (I don’t usually snack, so I had to think about this one.)

5 songs I know all the words to. “Amazing Grace”. “Give Me Jesus” by Fernando Ortega. Everything Loreena McKennitt sings. “How Great Thou Art”. “If I Flee on Morning Wings” by Fernando Ortega.

5 things Iâ????d do with $100 million. Tithe. Pay off all our debts as well as the debts of my parents. Set aside some so that we could take a vacation every year. Set up college funds for all our kids. Give the rest away.

5 places Iâ????d run away to. Ireland. The forests of Logborough Inlet, BC. Santa Cruz. Seattle. Montana.

5 things Iâ????d never wear. Anything showing my navel. Anything orange. Ponchos. Anything 80’s. Anything with garishly bright colors.

5 favorite TV shows. Grey’s Anatomy. The Biggest Loser. Mythbusters. Law & Order. COPS.

5 biggest joys. Petting my cats. Snuggling with Jon. Spending time with family. Singing sacred classical music with a good choir. Singing harmony on on hymns.

5 favorite toys. My laptop. My yogurt maker. My digital camera. My crochet hooks. Yarn + a cat.

5 people I want to pass this on to. Whoever wants to do it.

Community

I was replying to an entry on one of Laura’s journals when it hit me that one of the things I really miss about Columbus is having community around me. The dorms and the apartments at the seminary breed their own communities and the apartments are kind of like a compound in itself — we had BBQ’s in the summer and we’d babysit for each other during the year.

I have to admit that I hated the apartment I lived in — white cinderblock walls, no kitchen space, a gross bathroom, inadequate closet space, and no ventilation. I did, however, love that we always had people to help us move (it’s what you do during the summers in seminary) and there were always people to meet for coffee. I guess that’s what I’ve missed most of all.

I hope that we actually do end up in either an apartment complex or at least a close knit place when we get to Billings. I mean, I’d really love to have people with whom I can have coffee and share life who are my age and in my position…
