7 Quick Takes: Best Week Ever

7 Quick Takes

Orphans. Do you see these sweet children?

L-R: Brett and Iris

Brett still needs a mama. Iris finally has a family who have adopted her (I think they passed court this past week!) and they will hopefully be on their way home with her and her new little brother in a week or so.

Special intention. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for us for the last month. Please continue to pray for discernment for all who are involved and for me to be able to forgive people for the ways that they have wronged me.

Lent. For those who missed it, Beth Anne won my “Pick Jen’s Lenten Discipline” contest. I’m glad it was her because Kelly of This Ain’t The Lyceum had threatened promised to buy me a hair shirt if she won. Beth Anne assigned me the disciplines of finding a church to pray in 1-2 times a week and getting a devotional to do daily reading during the next 40ish days.

#AshTag Here’s my #ashtag from Wednesday. It’s the only selfie I take pretty much ever unless it’s to stick my tongue out at certain people.

Daniel and me.

Raindrops falling on my head. I think we’ve had storms every couple days for the last week or so. It’s not enough to get California out of the severe drought we’re in but it sure helps. We even had thunder and lightning up in my neck of the woods last night! That was pretty exciting. (It’s not as common here as it is in the Midwest.)

The title of this post. It wasn’t my best week ever — I’m a VH1 addict… or at least I was back when I had cable or satellite and I used to watch the show “Best Week Ever” all the time. I used to watch stuff like “I Love the 90’s” and “Celebrity Fit Club” all the time which I cannot imagine watching now! I kind of wonder if it and MTV even show music anymore.

“Son of God” People are astonished that I have no desire to see the “Son of God” movie. I keep telling them… the book is better! *rimshot* In all seriousness, I’m not a film person — I’d rather read a book than watch someone’s attempt at recreating it.

  1. I totally assumed correct when I saw your title that it was a VH1 reference! I’ve read several places that “Son of God” misses out on a lot and adds some things that just weren’t there. Since it’s by the same folks who did “The Bible” and I was annoyed by some of the “theatrical license” taken with that, I’ve decided to forgo it. You’re not alone.

  2. When I heard that “Son of God” didn’t offend anyone – that they wanted to make it so a Muslim, or a Jew, or an atheist could see it and enjoy it – I figured it was either very sugar coated and/or missing important parts. Jesus himself said the Gospel is divisive.

  3. The rain HAS been great! I hear we might (might, might) have an El Nino year shaping up, ,which would be awesome with this drought. (If it’s a rainy El Nino, that is.)

  4. I feel like I failed on the whole Ash Wednesday thing. I went to church and everything, but I forgot to take my selfie! Oh well…next year!

I am not going to go see the “Son of God” movie. Isn’t it just part of the Bible miniseries that was on TV last year anyway?

  5. You would be so much holier right now if you had that hair shirt…. or at least you’d be so uncomfortable you’d be able to forget all your other problems.

  6. I have no desire to see Son Of God because I’ve yet to see a film portraying Jesus where he looked attractive to me–not as in “OOOOOH YOU ARE SO GORGEOUS!” attractive, but “Oh, your charisma and your love draw me to want to follow you.” I personally think people should stop trying to portray him. You can’t do it with what’s in the Bible. It’s too sketchy. He always ends up looking weird to me.

  7. Sounds like your Lent is shaping up to be a rich one. Might I suggest that for one of your extra church times you go to Eucharistic Adoration at one of the Catholic churches in your area – such peace! We just finished a 24 hour adoration here and I have NEVER had such a profound experience of intimacy with God (and that’s saying something!).

  8. I am kind of expecting Son of God not being shown here… but even it is, not intending to see it. I watch very few ancient myth adaptations.

  9. I’m not planning to see Son of God either. One of the ladies in my Bible study said this week, “I’m sick of Hollywood portraying Jesus as blonde and sexy!”
