An Afternoon at the Fair
I woke up at 11 something this morning and suggested to Jon that we head to the fair for lunch. We did and we had a great time. I love going to the LQP County fair because a lot of our kids are in 4-H and it’s always fun to see their animals and their projects. We also saw the quilts and it wasn’t a surprise that a couple of our ladies won big in that category. I’d thought about entering some crocheting this year but didn’t have any projects that would have been acceptable since I make most of my stuff for other people.
We got to pet some of the animals (lambs and bunnies!) and I got to hold some baby chicks. Yes Krissy, we did see ducks — BIG ones. It’s making me ponder eating meat after seeing some of the animals but that’s another issue entirely…
We also went to the LQP County Museum which is at the fairgrounds and looked around. It was pretty cool because I actually knew the descendants of some of the people who had donated things to it. Robert Bly (proud son of Madison and distinguished poet) was there as was Bill Holm. Bly gave Jon an autographed copy of Iron John and he and I bantered about politics. (He had noticed all the DFL stickers on my shirt and he commented on them. I told him that I am neither Democrat nor Republican — I vote my conscience and my conscience is NOT Bush. His response: “I’m sorry for your conscience.”) Holm and I discussed Irish whiskey (there was an audience and it was really fun).
