An Explanation of What Is Going On

OK… the news from Tuesday (in the entry that got corrupted and had to be deleted) is that the Maternal Serum Alpha-Fetoprotein Screening test came back elevated for Down’s Syndrome. It doesn’t mean that the baby definitely has Down’s Syndrome — it just means that the right proteins and chemicals were present in the blood to indicate that they should look.

What this means: The high-definition ultrasound that I was supposed to have on the 20th just got jumped to the 3rd. (It was going to be the 6th but the high-risk doctor is out of the office that day.) Apparently, they need to have sufficient time in case we have to do amniocentisis or abort the kid. Neither one is going to happen — I draw the line at having amnio done unless the baby is actively dying and this kid will NOT be aborted. Period.

IF the baby has Down’s: we’ll deal with it. Seriously, it’s not a death sentence and there are two pastors that Jon has worked with here in Montana who have kids with it. One has a daughter my age who functions as well as most regular adults do (lives on her own, has a job, takes of most of her own business except for some of her banking) and the other has a preteen daughter who is like most preteens except that she has the flat facial features.

Regardless of anything that happens, the baby is going to be loved and it is very much a wanted child… even when it kicks so hard that it’s giving me acid reflux.

The 411 on This Week

I’m pretty sick with a stomach thing (not sure if it’s pregnancy-related or not) and it was a killer week so this is kind of a summary of what’s up these days:

[+] I went to get my car fixed… and caught hell from the mechanic who doesn’t think it’s worth fixing because it has 291,000 miles and is almost 20 years old.Â? It’s also super-reliable and while it took an act of God for me to find the body parts necessary to get it fixed (the mechanic couldn’t get them), it’s DEFINITELY worth fixing.Â? Jon’s car is another story.

[+] It got cold again.Â? We’ve been sub-zero for the last few weeks.

[+] The sea monkey is moving and making me pretty sick from kicking me.Â? We find out what it will be on the 30th and then there’s another ultrasound scheduled for February 20th in Great Falls to check for birth defects associated with Effexor XR.

Only in a Small Town…

I went to town yesterday to get prescriptions renewed and to do a hospital visit before going to the local coffeeshop to read.Â? Apparently, I was so out of it that I left my prescriptions on the counter and walked out of the store without them.Â? About an hour or two later, I ran into my pharmacist at Albertson’s and she told me that she had my prescriptions, offering to meet me back at the pharmacy to go get them after she grabbed a few things.Â? So… I do have my meds and I’m thankful that I don’t have to wait until Monday.
