We just got back from our sort-of annual pilgrimage to the
Holy Land, I mean Seattle to hang with my peeps. Here is the normal redux:
-getting to see my parents, evil twin, and his fiancée again
-good food most of the time
-getting to see my godmother again and meeting her new puppy Rosie (who might almost make me into a dog person)
-my mommy hemming 4 pairs of maternity pants for me (as I’m pretty useless with a sewing machine)
-the pictures we loaded onto my grandma’s digital picture frame
-my grandma’s calico cat Emily who has become nice in her old age
-Seattle drivers — let’s just say that they can’t drive in good weather so expecting them to drive well in slush is a bit unreal
-having to shovel and crack the snow/ice on my grandmother’s driveway so all the cars could get in and out
-Seattle traffic — Seattlites are in denial about the fact that it exists
-morning sickness at month 4(!!!!!!) of my pregnancy and the laundry that accompanied it
-missing my monsters at home
-the backpatting that the mayor of Seattle was doing about how well he and the city handled the storm — he gave himself and the city a “B” which most people would argue should be a “D-” or “F”.
-the fact that King County has 26 snow plows and my county (with less than 1% of that population) has 5.
To the people who are going on about the travel horrors we are supposed to encounter on Saturday when we fly to Seattle:
SHUT. THE. DUCK. UP!!!!!!!!
Yes… everyone and their mother got either delayed or had flights cancelled because of inclement weather last weekend. However… they’ve cleaned that mess up already and there aren’t any nasty storms forcast for the next few days.
STOP TRYING TO JINX US!!!!!
Oh… and Merry Christmas.
Up: The Great Falls trip went well despite the loser who tried cutting me off in the Wal-Mart parking lot. (Apparently the moron thought I could suddenly stop on packed snow???)
Down: The temperature. It’s been sub-zero for days and my car’s heater is not working well.
Up: Making out like a bandit at Old Navy. Three pairs of pants for $40.
Down: The little monster in my belly did not want to be found for a heartbeat on Friday at my pre-natal appointment. After 5 minutes of pressing on my belly with the Doppler, Dr. Awesome decided to play with the hospital’s ultrasound machine. 20 minutes and more cold jelly on my tummy later, we got an ultrasound pic of the baby immediately and a lovely fetal heartbeat.
Down: Flu shot on Friday. I have no immune system and am getting everything that goes around.
Up: Only two workdays this week. (Though I’ll probably be staying late on one of those days to clean off my desk before I head to Seattle.)
Up:Â Flying to Seattle next Saturday… if the weather improves.
Up: My laptop might be here before the estimated delivery date.
I called my dad last night to see if he got his present. He had and he told me that my evil twin is headed to Honolulu on business today.
Have I mentioned how cold it has been here lately?
I left said evil twin a message on his cell phone saying “I hate you! You suck!” He responded by letting me know that he’ll be thinking of me while he drinks pina coladas on the beach.
Me? Jealous? Now why would one think such a thing???
It’s -42 with windchill. Did I mention that we’re having furnace problems?
I’m just a bit crabby right now.
Oh… and let’s not talk about my ill-fated trip down to Great Falls today either. I’m just happy that my priest makes phone calls.
I had my ultrasound on Monday and all is well in that direction. I’m where I should be in terms of growth and weight gain. The little sea monkey was waving its limb buds at us.
I’m also finally over the respiratory plague thanks to sleeping for most of Thanksgiving weekend as well as a round of antibiotics. Now to get rid of the eye infection…
Let it also be said that winter sucks!!!! I don’t know how I used to like snow and cold but I really don’t right now!!!!
