I’m Kind of in Shock

I just found out that a friend of mine from seminary is dying tonight at OSU hospital.Â? I remember A being diagnosed with breast cancer a couple years ago and I hadn’t really heard much until a mutual friend told me that they had found a brain tumor in November or December.

I’m actually seriously in shock at the moment.

BCS Championships

GO FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(OK OK… I couldn’t tell you anything about the team except that they exist.Â? However, I root for anyone playing Ohio State as a principle.)

*ducks to avoid things being thrown at me from Central Ohio*

Home and Book Reviews

I’ve been home since the afternoon of the 4th. We didn’t have a working furnace for 2 days but that’s thankfully fixed. (I’m also thankful that the weather didn’t drop too much below freezing — the house stayed around 58F but that’s better than 0F.)

Here’s an entry I wrote on the 1st from my in-law’s house:

I just finished The New Faithful by Colleen Carroll and it was lovely. I had heard of the book a few years ago from my father-in-law who was commenting on the fact that there was an increase in young adults doing things like Eucharistic adoration. Having seen all these things, I resolved to get my paws on the book and read it. Well… 3 years later, I’m down here in southern California and I have that chance. I read the book and I could actually picture quite a few of my friends in the descriptions they gave. (One person in the book is someone with whom I am familiar — Eve Tushnet.) I have good friends in real life and online (ahem… Victoria!!!) who are heavily into Eucharistic adoration and who were big proponents of it in college. I was also one of the people in college who wanted something concrete and who returned to my liturgical roots. In fact, I’m kind of wishing that I had a more staunch liturgical community near me because liturgy is what feeds me. It’s kind of too bad that the denomination that I’m closest to worship-wise is too liberal for me politically.

In the Year 2007…

Will you be looking for a new job?
Yep… hopefully one where I work well with the people and find some meaning in my work.
Â?
Will you be looking for a new relationship?
Friends, yes but not a new romance.Â? I’m happily married

New house?
Nope.

What will you do different in 2007?
Lots of things.Â? What they all are has yet to be determined.

New Years resolution?
See previous post.

What will you not be doing in 2007?
I will not be moving to southern California.Â? (No amount of money could make me do that.)Â? I will not be getting a dog.Â? I will not be joining the Republican party.Â? I will not begin to like Dubya.Â? I will not move to Texas and take up cattle-ranching. I will not pierce my tongue.Â? I will not commit regicide.

Any trips planned?
I’m leaving things open.Â? I’m already on an unexpected one due to Jon’s grandfather dying.

Wedding plans?
None for me but I’m not ruling out any of my friends.

Nope.Â? I don’t drink.

Will you have better relationship with your family?
I’m hoping.

Will you do charity work?
Yes, in some way/shape/form

Will you go to bars?
Bars are obnoxious smoke-filled places.Â? Why would I set foot in one?Â? Oh yeah… there’s the fact that I DON’T DRINK.

Will you be nice to people you donâ????t know?
I try to be.

Do you expect 2007 to be a good year for you?
I’m hoping.

A bit.

Do you plan on having a child?
No.

I’m hoping.

Major lifestyle changes?
Other than the weight loss thing (which is more “developing healthier habits”) and maybe finding a job, I’m hoping not.

Will you be moving?
Hopefully not.

What will you make sure doesnâ????t happen in 2007 that happened in 06?
Hopefully no deaths in the family.

What are your New Years Eve plans?
Funeral at 2 for Jon’s grandfather and a party in the evening.

If I want one.
