31 Days of My World As It Is Sung: The Simple Woman’s Daybook for October 1, 2017

For Today… October 1, 2017

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… sunny now though it was raining earlier and we’ve had a few days of good rain. Weather.Com says it’s 50F and I believe them.

I am thinking… about my Doodle assignment this week.

I am thankful… for classes I like this quarter.

One of my favorite things… when my sports teams win. My Giants beat San Diego and I’m hoping my Niners can beat Arizona.

I am wearing… a grey heather long-sleeved shirt and jeans. Church clothes this morning were a blue-grey long-sleeved shirt, black slacks, and black flats.

I am creating… various Doodle polls.

I am listening to… classical music on a DISH Network channel

I am hoping… Daniel’s appointment with the Autism Center at Seattle Children’s Hospital this week goes well. We’ve been waiting for this appointment for a very long time. (The waiting list for an appointment is over a year long.)

I am learning… about email best practices.

In my kitchen… coq au vin is cooking.

In the school room… Daniel continues to love school.

Post Script… Tesla’s aid to victims of Hurricane Maria.

Shared Quote… “The four sayings that lead to wisdom:
I was wrong
I’m sorry
I don’t know
I need help”

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung

7 Quick Takes: Homework Break Edition

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

Baseball take #1. Kind of bummed that Matt Cain is retiring but it sounds like it’s for the best. He’s got some injuries and he’s had a really good run with the Giants.

— 2 —

Because I *OBVIOUSLY* don’t have enough on my plate right now. I’m doing Write 31 Days again. I’ll have a sticky page up on Saturday with my details.

null

— 3 —

School take #1. My CDSP class on church finance is fascinating and has led to some interesting conversations with my Vestry. I may end up as the church treasurer at some point in the next 10 years so I’m glad I’m learning about fund accounting.

— 4 —

Divorce-related take. I’ve largely kept the divorce off of this blog because I don’t want to air my dirty laundry. However, the final judgment has just been submitted to both attorneys for signatures. Please pray we can get everything signed off in the next week or so and also pray for Jon’s heart and my heart as this is a very painful process for both of us.

— 5 —

Having just said all that…This song came up on YouTube and I think it’s definitely where my heart is at the moment.

— 6 —

School take #2. My other three classes are going well. I want to immerse myself completely in Sage50 for my Microcomputer Accounting II class and play but I need to be diligent and finish things up for my Electronic Communications class in the next day or so.

7 Quick Takes: First Week of School Edition

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

A bootylicious bone broth recipe. Because I completely spaced on it being Thursday and had nothing better to do tonight before this than download accounting software or talk on the phone to boys, my Quick Takes are late and I saw what Kelly posted beforehand… which means I can *TOTALLY* share her recipe for bone broth. Apparently, it’s guaranteed to make my loser liver into one that’s bootylicious. Score!

Oh… a memo to my liver: remember our deal! I don’t drink alcohol and you don’t crap out on me before I turn 40. You better not die before May 19, 2020! I don’t want to have to depend on the Evil Twin to keep his liver pristine enough to give a piece!!!

— 2 —

Back to school again. In case you missed my *AWESOME* daybook post this week with a fabulous photo of me with freshly-washed hair, I started school again on Monday and I’m all online this quarter. I’m taking a class on electronic communication (basically Outlook/Skype/business apps), a class on Sage’s accounting software, an online PE class, and a church finance class through CDSP.

— 3 —

Wait, Jen. Online PE??? Yep… online PE. I have a book to read, a discussion board post weekly, and a report to send to my instructor weekly of my exercise logged (30 minutes of something physical x 5 days/week). In theory, I could lie through my teeth about getting all that exercise but I would end up screwing myself over because my aim this quarter is to incorporate some movement into my day.

— 4 —

Geeky linguistic fun. Here’s a map of the most common surnames in Europe by country. Why is it geeky linguistic fun? Well, the blogger follows it with an explanation of what each name means and mentions that in Iceland, there is still a patronomic system in place. Duuuuude…

— 5 —

Prerequisite baseball take. My Giants are unfortunately at the bottom of the National League. 🙁 (Can we say bad trade decisions?) Even worse news: the Dodgers clinched a playoff spot. At least the Cubs are in and if I have to root for the American league, I can root for Boston.

The match-up that would guarantee me boycotting the Word Series: Dodgers vs. Indians. Because Cleveland teams are horrible (other examples: the loser Cavs and the Browns who are consistently at the bottom of the NFL *EVERY* year) and the Dodgers are the archnemesis of my Giants.

— 6 —

Music take #1. This is one of my favorite hymns and I love the setting by Michael Card.

— 7 —

Music take #2. I’ve loved this song since seminary and I used to sing it to Daniel as a lullaby.

7 Quick Takes: Pity Party Edition

7 Quick Takes

I pondered writing this at 3:15 a.m. when I was up with Daniel so… here is my pity party of things I’m missing.

— 1 —

Sleep. The kid was up between 1-5 a.m. this morning. 6 more days until he starts school and I can go back to sleep after getting him on the bus!

— 2 —

My massage therapist in Galt. I saw a massage therapist almost the whole time we lived in Galt (2011-2014). It was helpful for my fibromyalgia and she kept my neck and shoulders worked out. I could seriously use her right now!

— 3 —

Obama. I miss having a president who was intelligent, classy, ethical, and *NOT* 45. Seriously, even my diehard Republican friends who didn’t vote for him even miss him!

— 4 —

Sugary cereal. Given that I live with my health-nut parents, Lucky Charms and Cocoa Puffs wouldn’t be allowed in the house. They’re also pretty much verboten because of my diabetes. However, I’d still give almost anything for a bowl of them.

— 5 —

My Giants being a winning team. Seriously, the freaking DODGERS are at the top of the NL West. Let’s talk about how *WRONG* that is, let alone that my boys are 40 games behind them. My #2 boys (the Cardinals) are only 6 games behind the Cubs so they could still take the division if the Cubs and the Brewers lose some games.

— 6 —

In-n-Out Burger. If you’ve lived anywhere in California, you will understand. They’re better than Five Guys, hands down.

— 7 —

Rain. We’re having an abnormally dry summer up here in God’s Country (the Pacific Northwest) and I’d like a nice rainstorm.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook: June 14, 2017

For Today… June 14, 2017

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… cloudy. We had a little bit of sun but it got cold again.

I am thinking… about how I will structure my classwork this summer. I have an online class on interpersonal communications

I am thankful… that the Warriors annihilated the Cavs in the NBA championships. I’m a Bay Area native and I hate all Cleveland sports teams so I’m positively gleeful. This also means that my boys have avenged their loss in the championships last year. 🙂

One of my favorite things… clean sheets. I just made my bed with fresh sheets and am loving it. (It’s laundry day for Daniel and me.)

I am wearing… a long-sleeved berry colored shirt from Old Navy and jeans from Kohl’s.

I am creating… this entry. I turned my last PowerPoint presentation in last night and am DONE with everything for the quarter.

I am reading… Wedding Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke.

I am hoping… for a calm and quiet evening tonight.

In my kitchen… not sure what I’ll do for dinner tonight.

In the school room… Daniel finishes school for the year on Friday.

Post Script… this is from March but it’s still amazing.

Shared Quote… “I’m not going to light myself on fire to keep you warm.” — something from a page on dealing with people who have narcissistic personality disorder like this blog’s troll does.

A moment from my day… my favorite hymn from Sunday.

7 Quick Takes: Staring At a Blank Wall Edition

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

End of the quarter. I am two tests, two quizzes, a discussion post, a report, and an amended PowerPoint presentation away from being done with the quarter. The quizzes, discussion post, and report will be tackled on Sunday. PowerPoint will be amended either tomorrow or Saturday. The tests will be taken on Monday and Tuesday. After that, I AM DONE!!!

— 2 —

Parenting advice. Parenting advice has indeed changed.

— 3 —

An interesting idea. Crocheted water balloons? What a novel idea!

— 4 —

Unbelievable. I’ve been getting a lot of “On This Day” things on Facebook about Daniel this week because it has been 8 years (as of the 7th) since we were able to bring him home from the hospital. It’s so amazing to think that my tiny baby is now only a foot shorter than I am!

— 5 —

Getting fur out of my keyboard. Homer, my gorgeous grey loaner cat, is being extra affectionate tonight which is wonderful… except that my keyboard now has quite a bit of fur in it! *goes off to find a can of compressed air to clean it*

— 6 —

Trinity fun. Some fun because this Sunday is Trinity Sunday…

— 7 —

Sports take. Go Dubs!!!! Sweep the Cavs!!!!

7 Quick Takes: Church Invitations, Rich Mullins, and Spring Training

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

Holy being vulnerable, Batman! A guy in my Accounting class and I have been talking about faith things so I asked him if he wanted to come to church with me on Sunday… by passing him a note with the name, address, and worship time for my church and the words “let’s pretend I actually had the guts to say this in person” on it.

Yeah… I’m really that awkward. Thankfully, he’s interested in possibly coming.

— 2 —

Rich Mullins. A few nights ago, I was answering a Reddit question on my favorite song lyrics that mean something to me and I had to look up the lyrics for chorus of “If I Stand”. That led to listening to a bunch of Rich Mullins songs that I really love as well as a few Third Day ones.

— 3 —

Hit by holy 2×4. I was sitting in my Accounting classroom alone on Tuesday afternoon doing homework when I was hit by the strong feeling that I needed to be praying for my classmates. I spent some time praying for the people whose needs I knew… and learned about a whole host of other ones this morning. I think it’s probably a good thing that I’m open to the smackings upside the head of the Holy Spirit.

— 4 —

Invoicing Rep. Jason Chaffetz. Said congressional rep accused the protestors at his town hall of being “paid protestors” so people are invoicing him for their time at the protest. I shouldn’t be laughing… but I am.

— 5 —

Why Trump’s immigrant ban is anti-Biblical. I am very fond of this video from James Martin, S.J.

— 6 —

Prerequisite baseball take. SPRING TRAINING HAS STARTED! SPRING TRAINING HAS STARTED! SPRING TRAINING HAS STARTED! *cheers on the Giants and boos the Dodgers*

— 7 —

Change in practice. I’m not raffling off the right to pick my Lenten discipline this year. I know what I’ll be doing but I won’t be revealing it until Ash Wednesday.
