7 Quick Takes: The Dodgers Are Losers Edition

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

Seriously perfect. I was looking for Dodger GIFS for this post and came across this one…

Dodgers suck!

I consider this proof that God loves me and wants me to be happy. 😀

— 2 —

My horrible sportsmanship. Someone on Facebook called me out for my Dodgers-hating and told me I was a horrible sport. My response:

Duh!

— 3 —

Because I am Hermione, yo! I’ve been invited to join my school’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa because I’ve been pulling a 4.0 for the last 4 quarters. I may or may not have fist-pumped when I got the email.

— 4 —

I’m dying. Talk about going out on top!

I cannot stop laughing.

— 5 —

All Soul’s Day. I thought I’d share this from The Episcopal Church’s Facebook page. (I recommend following them for the pictures coupled with prayers or Scripture they post twice a day.)

All Soul's Day

— 6 —

Because Loreena McKennitt. I’ve seen her perform this twice in concert.

— 7 —

Some more Loreena McKennitt. One thing she does well is set poetry to music. I used her version of “The Lady of Shalott” (Lord Alfred Tennyson) to memorize the last part of it for my 8th grade accelerated English class in 1994 and she is known for putting Shakespeare to music.

I especially love her version of “The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes. It’s too bad she released it 4 years after my brother had to memorize part of it!

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung: Free Speech Edition of My 7 Quick Takes

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

Free speech. I just saw on Facebook that Richard Spencer’s speech has ended. The furor over it reminded me of when Milo Yiannopolous attempted to speak at UC Berkeley and they had to cancel it because of the protests. I got pretty sick of having to explain to morons on Facebook that your right to free speech does not mean that your speech is free of consequences.

Milo’s speech also marked the beginning of my policy of unfollowing and unfriending anyone on my wall who used the term “libtard”.

— 2 —

Stories about the good in people. This has been a fortunate find and has restored some of my faith in humanity.

— 3 —

97. My grandma turns 97 years old today. We’ll be having 19 (!!!!) people at the house for dinner on Saturday… which should be interesting. 2 1/2 recipes of goulash, spaetzle, various salads, and half of a sheet cake will be appearing tomorrow and Saturday. My evil twin and his long-suffering wife will arrive tomorrow.

— 4 —

Really? Apparently,45 gives himself and his administration a 10/10 for Puerto Rico disaster recovery efforts. Geez… grade inflation is out of control! [/sarcasm]

So… an A+ effort means a widespread lack of electricity and drinkable water. Huh. Pretty sure Obama would have been crucified for his disaster relief efforts if they had been like 45’s in Puerto Rico.

— 5 —

You mean politicians can work together? Props to the 24 senators co-sponsoring a bill to save the Affordable Care Act. I am especially proud that Patty Murray, my senator, was one of the leaders in putting this together.

— 6 —

Prerequisite baseball take. The Horrible Team from LA is apparently going to be in the World Series. I guess I’ll be rooting for the American League this year, even if it’s the Yankees.

*vomits at the thought of the Dodgers in the World Series*

— 7 —

Some music. Enjoy this new song from Rend Collective.

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung: Autumn Quick Takes

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

Surprise surprise. This is just proof that… CLEVELAND’S SPORTS TEAMS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suck it, Elena!
(HT: Yahoo Sports)

I guess I can go back to fully hating the Yankees now…

— 2 —

What the eff?!?!?!? An African-American man swings a flashlight at a white supremacist trying to spear him and another man with a Confederate flagpole, gets kicked to the ground, beaten almost to death… and is charged with a felony in his own beating. I swear, I am not making this crap up and IT IS PISSING ME OFF!!!!

— 3 —

Definitely autumn. It is seriously too freaking cold in the mornings and I’m going back to bed and falling back asleep because I’m trying to get warm. Alas, this is screwing with my productivity. *grumps*

— 4 —

Some hopeful “news”. It turns out that the supervolcano below Yellowstone National Park could spring to life quickly, erupt, and destroy life as we know it. Yeah… been hearing that on the Discovery Channel for 10 years, Fox News. Oh wait… a UFO has been spotted above it? That’s actually slightly more believable than the normal crap y’all report.

— 5 —

Harvey Weinstein. This is an excellent piece on why women don’t fight back or speak up when they’re harrassed.

— 6 —

How pro-life of him. 45 is threatening to pull hurricane relief efforts from Puerto Rico. Apparently, he doesn’t like being told that his measly efforts are craptastic, and that throwing a roll of paper towels at people or purposely misprounouncing the island’s name is immature.. Cry me a freaking river, dude. 80% of the island has no electricity and people are homeless. I know you didn’t carry the territory in the 2016 election (are they even allowed to vote for the president?), but they deserve the same level of relief that Texas and Florida are getting.

— 7 —

One more baseball take. I’m waiting with bated breath to find out who gets to knock the Losers in LA out in the NLCS. C’mon Cubbies! Mama wants you to go on to #BeatLA!!!

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung: The Simple Woman’s Daybook for October 8, 2017

For Today… October 8, 2017

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… dark. It started out chilly today and got up to 63F around noon. It’s now down in the low 40’s.

I am thinking… about the publicity stunt the Vice-President pulled today. He needs to reimburse taxpayers for the money he wasted. My friends who are vets (Iraq and Afghanistan) think he and 45 are both tools and point out every freaking time they are asked that they served and fought to protect the athletes’ right to protest so THEY DON’T CARE.

I am thankful… for everything going well with worship today.

One of my favorite things… being warm. I haven’t been lately. For some odd reason, I can’t deal with the drop in temperatures — I don’t know if the house is just colder or what.

I am wearing… jammies. Church clothes were a berry-colored long-sleeved shirt from Old Navy, black slacks, and black flats. I switched out the slacks for jeans after church and spent the rest of the day usually barefoot.

I am creating… reports for Sage.

I am watching… the news.

I am hoping… Daniel sleeps through the night tonight.

I am learning… how to do transactions for a cash business in Sage

In my kitchen… I made beef stroganoff and noodles for Sunday dinner. Mom took care of the salad, beans, and pie.

In the school room… Daniel was asking to go to school when my alarm went off yesterday and today. It was adorable!

Post Script… the reason you tie shoelaces for people as a doctor.

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung: The Simple Woman’s Daybook for October 1, 2017

For Today… October 1, 2017

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… sunny now though it was raining earlier and we’ve had a few days of good rain. Weather.Com says it’s 50F and I believe them.

I am thinking… about my Doodle assignment this week.

I am thankful… for classes I like this quarter.

One of my favorite things… when my sports teams win. My Giants beat San Diego and I’m hoping my Niners can beat Arizona.

I am wearing… a grey heather long-sleeved shirt and jeans. Church clothes this morning were a blue-grey long-sleeved shirt, black slacks, and black flats.

I am creating… various Doodle polls.

I am listening to… classical music on a DISH Network channel

I am hoping… Daniel’s appointment with the Autism Center at Seattle Children’s Hospital this week goes well. We’ve been waiting for this appointment for a very long time. (The waiting list for an appointment is over a year long.)

I am learning… about email best practices.

In my kitchen… coq au vin is cooking.

In the school room… Daniel continues to love school.

Post Script… Tesla’s aid to victims of Hurricane Maria.

I was wrong
I’m sorry
I don’t know
I need help”

31 Days of My World As It Is Sung

7 Quick Takes: Homework Break Edition

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

Baseball take #1. Kind of bummed that Matt Cain is retiring but it sounds like it’s for the best. He’s got some injuries and he’s had a really good run with the Giants.

— 2 —

Because I *OBVIOUSLY* don’t have enough on my plate right now. I’m doing Write 31 Days again. I’ll have a sticky page up on Saturday with my details.

null

— 3 —

School take #1. My CDSP class on church finance is fascinating and has led to some interesting conversations with my Vestry. I may end up as the church treasurer at some point in the next 10 years so I’m glad I’m learning about fund accounting.

— 4 —

Divorce-related take. I’ve largely kept the divorce off of this blog because I don’t want to air my dirty laundry. However, the final judgment has just been submitted to both attorneys for signatures. Please pray we can get everything signed off in the next week or so and also pray for Jon’s heart and my heart as this is a very painful process for both of us.

— 5 —

Having just said all that…This song came up on YouTube and I think it’s definitely where my heart is at the moment.

— 6 —

School take #2. My other three classes are going well. I want to immerse myself completely in Sage50 for my Microcomputer Accounting II class and play but I need to be diligent and finish things up for my Electronic Communications class in the next day or so.

— 7 —

In closing…

7 Quick Takes: My Laptop Is Back Edition

7 Quick Takes

— 1 —

My laptop is back! For those who remember the Babylonian Captivity of My Former Laptop at the hands of HP (go check out my December 2013 and January 2014 archives), I want to say that Best Buy and Geek Squad get my unwavering seal of approval and my business from here on out. Geek Squad had my laptop fixed and back to me within a week FOR FREE. Their customer service people are also phenomenal.

— 2 —

Holy cougar issues, Batman! The Gainesville Police Department shared a picture of three of their officers headed out on shift and well… the officers were “hella fine” and attracted the cat-calling of a number of women on Facebook. Two of them are married (God bless their wives!) and the third (who is single) is being placed in “Cougar Prey Protective Care”. Other officers in the police department have jumped in to “help” and the Sarasota Police Department came to Gainesville’s aid.

I guess there are now plans for a calendar featuring all of them with the money going toward cleaning up after Hurricane Irma?

— 3 —

Amazing. Shawn Colvin looks great for 51 years old and this is an amazing arrangement.

— 4 —

Because I can cut and paste links again! I can embed Youtube links again (had to be able to cut and paste the code into this entry) so here is what popped into my head:

— 5 —

Another song from my chaotic mind. I get diverse earworms. 🙂 Actually, I love singing Gospel and folk music so this one isn’t the most surprising.

— 6 —

Not in *MY* country!!!! I am horrified that people tried to hang an 8 year old biracial boy. Seriously, there aren’t enough expletives to describe my rage at this!!!!!!!!

— 7 —

Prerequisite school take. I start back to school next week and I am so excited! I got my books on Tuesday and I can’t wait to dig into the one on Sage (accounting software)!

— Bonus —

A hymn for today. Today is Holy Cross day so here’s a hymn:
