Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… sunny and quite nice. Weather.Com is saying temps are around 51F but it feels warmer than that. There’s definitely rain offshore and we were supposed to get hammered on Election Day, but it’s starting to look like the rain is holding off until Wednesday.

I am thinking… about my Accounting test tomorrow and what subjects I need to brush up on tonight after dinner.

I am thankful… for whoever found my pocketbook and turned it in at Haggen on Friday. It’s good to know that there are honest people out there.

One of my favorite things… the view of evergreen forests from my bedroom window.

I am wearing… a v-neck shirt and jeans. Church clothes were a dress, camisole, cardigan, tights, and my black flats.

I am creating… Access queries. Fun.

I am reading… Trump fans’ erroneous thoughts on President Obama defending an pro-Trump protestor at a rally. Whether or not you like him or agree with him, you have to acknowledge that Obama is a class act and so incredibly different from the degenerate nominated by the Republicans to replace him. He told the crowd that they needed to respect the protestor because he was veteran, elderly, and we live in a country where we value free speech.

I am hoping… Hillary wins on Tuesday. I’m not a fan of hers but the alternative of Trump as president makes me nauseated.

I am learning… how to perform queries in Microsoft Access.

In my kitchen… Dad is making something for Sunday dinner.

In the school room… Daniel is saying more and more words. It’s like someone turned on a faucet in the speech section of his brain.

Post Script… The Cubs set a record for the 7th largest gathering in human history. (My friend’s son described it as “the zombie apocalypse with Cubs fans”.) Beat that, Cleveland!

7 Quick Takes: More Asthma Exacerbation Edition

Sigh… Trick-or-treating on my cul-de-sac almost killed me because of asthma exacerbation (thank God Daniel only wanted to do five houses!) and I had to stay home from class on Tuesday to rest my lungs. I hate missing class but I also didn’t want to be puking from the asthma attack I would get from walking to the classroom from my car. Thankfully, it wasn’t a quiz day so I didn’t lose points for being absent.

World Series. My back-up boys have prevailed and Cleveland is back to stinking at sports! My only regret is that the Cubs didn’t sweep them; but at least they triumphed in Game 7 while playing *IN* Cleveland. (For those who are wondering, I hate all Cleveland sports teams and root against them at every turn. Thank various seminary classmates and obnoxious bloggers for this one.) Here’s hoping this is the beginning of some baseball dominance for the Cubs! They definitely deserve it. I’m so excited for my Illinois friends who are headed to a victory parade that has been a long time in coming. 🙂

And seriously, the rain delay was a joke. These men are being paid millions of dollars — if volunteer softball teams can play in the rain and football teams can play in -20F weather with blowing snow, baseball players can man up and play in the rain! I mean, are they going to melt?

The Write 31 Days challenge. I have prevailed over the Write 31 Days challenge! I need to do one more post aggregating all of the resources I linked but I’m glad I managed to write every day in October, even when I really didn’t want to write or when I was bogged down with homework.

Daniel and ENT fun. The munchkin had an early ENT appointment on Wednesday and was pretty good until we had to restrain him so that the doctor could examine his ears under the microscope. (To be fair, I’d hate to be restrained and have someone poking things into various orifices so I don’t really blame him.) He’s got serious ear wax preventing them from being able to do a decent exam and they couldn’t get it out so they’re going to have to sedate him to clean it out. This should be… interesting.

Election blah. I am so sick of the election that I’m pausing and then fast-forwarding through anything election-related on TV. I voted almost three weeks ago because everyone registered in Washington gets their ballot in the mail and they can choose to mail it back or drop it off in person. Seriously, there should be some chip in the ballot that automatically gets rid of political ads and all political content from TV once a person votes because this is too much.

Interesting… A small town in Macedonia has become a hub for pro-Trump websites. It’s a bit disturbing that Macedonian people are profiting off our electoral dysfunction.

*facepalm* I heard from one of my favorite $tarbux baristas that she had people whining about not having eggnog lattés on Halloween and that there’s some controversy about the green pre-holidays cup. Seriously?!?!?!?!? Eggnog lattés are foul-tasting and it’s not like it’s even Advent yet, let alone Christmas.

Some people seriously destroy my faith in humanity and I’m not even talking about Trump supporters with this one!

The resident I saw last Thursday. I had to go in for asthma/bronchitis issues and got a resident who listened to me and didn’t tell me just to suck it up. I just sent her a thank-you email because I felt like she took my concerns seriously.

My Accounting class. I’m doing extra problems in each chapter for *FUN*. That is crazy!!!

The band NEEDTOBREATHE. I am in love with their songs “Brother” and “Testify”. “Washed By the Water” is also pretty awesome.

The weather lately. It’s been beautiful and rainy. I am in heaven.

My grey kitty Homer. Someone is being a needeh kitteh and is wanting to come and sit on my chest. He’s also my homework buddy.

For Today…

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… a little cloudy and chilly. It hasn’t even broken 50F yet today!

I am thinking… about what to blog on for today in the Write 31 Days challenge.

I am thankful… for a few minutes of quiet after getting home from church. Mom took Daniel to Fred Meyer and they aren’t back yet.

One of my favorite things… good choral music. We sang this for the Offertory this morning.

I am wearing… an indigo shirt and jeans. For church, I switched out my jeans for my black paisley skirt.

I am creating… Access databases.

I am listening to… various songs by NEEDTOBREATHE.

I am hoping… the Cubs win the next three World Series games. I hate all Cleveland sports teams and am wondering what deal they made with Satan for two of their teams to be doing as well as they are this year. (Usually, their teams are a joke.)

I am learning… about how to journalize and post closing entries in Practical Accounting.

In my kitchen… not sure if we’re having “family dinner” tonight with just the four of us but I’m kind of hoping we are.

In the school room… Daniel continues to do really well with his program.

Halloween costumes. I couldn’t find kitty ears and a tail anywhere else so I finally broke down and went to a Spirit Halloween superstore. I was able to find a tail and ears without a problem as well as a black hooded cape for Daniel. I’m trying to figure out what he should be. Ideas?

Almost done. I only have 5 posts left for the Write 31 Days challenge. I’m glad I was able to go all month this year (I had to bail after 17 days last year because of my unplanned move to northern California) though I’m also kind of glad that it’s ending because it’s been hard at times to find time to write on days when I have a fair amount of homework.

Update on the mutant death virus. I’m definitely better than last week but all the crud in my chest has exacerbated my asthma enough that I went to see the doctor this morning to see if we could formulate a plan to keep me out of the ER. She took one listen to my lungs and announced that she would be putting me on a Z-pack and that I would need to be taking my inhaler every 4-6 hours for the next week. (Yay inhaler shakes!)

Prayers for healing of this mutant death virus would be appreciated. Please and thank you!

More adventures with my “pretty notebook”. Various people commented that I needed psychiatric help when they saw how detailed and colorful my Chapter 4 outline was for my Accounting class. Well… it paid off for me because I had to miss class last Thursday due to illness but had no problems doing the homework because I had drawn all of the necessary diagrams in my notebook. 😀 I also managed to put together an Excel worksheet for three of the problems with formulas that could be copied across multiple columns. #winning

Double rainbows. The storms we had on Tuesday and Wednesday brought some amazingly brilliant double rainbows. It’s been fabulous. 🙂

31 Days of Parenting Kiddos with Special Needs: An Example of Being Thankful in the Midst of Crisis

31 Days of Parenting Kiddos with Special Needs

I’m trying to get my Excel homework done and uploaded so please accept a snippet of a post on Thanksgiving in the midst of the PICU from 5 years ago.

So I’m sitting on my fold-out bed in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) with Daniel. (He got my cold. Chest colds and him don’t mix well. He spiked a 102F fever and started having problems breathing. I think the rest of the story is self-explanatory.) In an effort to ward off the pity party that I’m so incredibly tempted to throw for myself, here are seven things I’m thankful for right now. Oh yeah… updates on his condition and what’s going on can be found here.

Daniel having Medi-Cal through SSI. It’s paying for what our insurance doesn’t. Given that our last PICU trip involved a 19 day hospital stay, this could add up pretty quickly.

My mom. She drove us to the hospital (we’re down with my parents) and stayed with us until they brought Daniel upstairs. This entailed reciting loads of poetry and nursery rhymes and helping to hold the little bear down while they did unpleasant things to him. Words can’t express my gratitude.

My evil twin. He brought Jon down with a container of Mushroom Risotto for me. Last time we had a PICU stay, he stayed with Jon and I through the worst night and hosted my parents on the weekends so they could be with Daniel and I.

Jon. He read to Daniel and came upstairs with us and prayed with him. He also brought me clean underwear and pajamas as well as part of my prescriptions. I’m loving the clean underwear, the jammies, and the Klonopin.

The speed of the ER peeps once the words “respiratory distress” were uttered. We were only down in the ER for 3.5 hours. (Normal is 4+.) We had a doctor checking him within 10 minutes. That’s impressive.

People praying. I put out the word to my people and there should be prayers ascending. Please also add yours in. We can’t get enough prayer right now.

Being ahead on NaNo. It’s meaning that I might actually make it to 50K before 11/30 this year.

For Today…

Simple Woman's Daybook

Looking out my window… dark. It was in the 60’s today with some clouds moving in a little bit ago and a short shower. My joints are feeling better now that the BIG weather systems have rolled on through.

I am thinking… about my week and what is on my plate in terms of school, Daniel, church and everything else.

I am thankful… I’m doing better in terms of this stupid virus than I was last Wednesday afternoon and evening.

One of my favorite things… when all my numbers balance on my Accounting homework. 🙂

I am wearing… jammies. Church clothes were my turquoise/black/white bokeh Easter dress with a black camisole underneath (Kohl’s), my black cardigan (Kohl’s), black tights (Target back from when we lived in Montana), and my black flats (Naturalizer). A couple people commented on how pretty I looked in my dress. (I usually dress up for church but my outfit today was apparently a big deal?) After church, I changed into my blue-green shirt from Old Navy and jeans from Kohl’s.

I am creating… formulas for my Excel submission assignment that is due tomorrow at 11:55 p.m.

I am listening to… “Cops: Reloaded” on TV. I’ll probably switch to various musical pieces in a bit.

I am hoping… to be over this stupid respiratory thing soon.

I am learning… about adjusting entries in Accounting.

In my kitchen… steak, potatoes, bacon caesar salad, and cookies with ice cream for dessert.

In the school room… Daniel’s “fall family meeting” went super well. He’s making progress and his teachers/aides/therapists are smitten with him. 🙂

Post Script… You know you have the respect of your LGBTQ friends when ones that are very anti-religious send you an article from a religious publication you like and ask for your honest thoughts on it. 🙂

A moment from my day…

Closing Notes: When I was writing my piece on Friday, a piece of code that was supposed to bold something got inserted in a weird place and I didn’t find it until last night when I was reading over something. It ended up putting the last part of the second C. Everett Koop in bold type… a part that I think *ALL* of us need to read and re-read endlessly in this election cycle.
